I fully appreciate what NDS is doing.
Just to add flavor to the soup, I installed the very same door I used on the NDS 603 on a NDS 604
and it snapped shut not a problem. The door that the 604 came with was from Rifle Stuff?
(some kind of retro - repro)
and it doesn't work at all on the 604, but almost works on the Bushmaster the original test
door came off of. But tap it slightly and it pops open instantly (Again the repro door was not the one
tested on the 603.)
Looking at the machining on my Colt uppers as compared to NDS they are indeed different
in shape and size for the ejection port door geometry where the button goes up into the reciever.
Never thought to look until now.
Lessons learned.
1: Only buy new uppers from NDS, be patient and wait. NDS doesn't mark their blem uppers
and the original 603 upper as per NDS is also one with a carry handle that is too narrow. I've asked
them to mark them if they could. I've bought two off the EE and both are blems. with both sellers
unaware of the issues.
2: Only buy Colt e-port doors, if possible. Or at least test them out prior to installing the barrel, but with
a BCG installed.
In the 30 years I've been around AR's and having worked over hauling PD M16's, I've never seen
anything like this. Again very pleased with NDS's response, they really went of their way to make it right.
