Recently purchased a Odin Works DMR barrel.

Thinking of sending it to H&M Metal Processing to get it treated.

Any suggestions or comments? Heard issues from Krieger's website and also from different users on various websites citing the Barrel Extension coming loose.

Thanks!

Check out http://www.ibccoatings.com/surface-treatments

They offer several types of nitriding including ION Plasma Nitriding.

I'll second this. Why risk ruining it?

That is why I left my JP barrel alone. I didn't want to risk it.

Thanks for the advice guys.

I'll probably just end up leaving it alone.

Those parts should be nitrided separately and then assembled. Check with H&M on what they need.

I think you would need a new barrel that did not have the gas port pre-drilled, as that has to be done after the extension is properly torqued down to the barrel at 150 foot pounds. Headspacing needs to be checked with this kind of work. A good gunsmith can do this from the parts for not much labor cost.. I think companies like Kreiger and Shilen, perhaps Lilja, could supply stainless barrels that have been finished except for the gas port for such purposes, and you could ship the barrel and extension to H&M for treatment.

I am an advocate of nitride, but would not want to have a finished barrel treated after the extension has been installed.
