I don't own one but I'm wanting a good manufacturer. Are Rock River Arms any better than Bushmaster? Are DPMS any good? Also how much better are 20 inch uppers opposed to 16 inch. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

You asked a couple of question that are asked pretty much every day on this site. The best course for you is to spend time reading all the tacked threads in each forum and then decide what you want based on what you most likely are gonna do the most of.(e.g. Target/Plinking,Home defense, competition, etc) and on your price range. Like anything you buy, there is no perfect answer.. |
I have a Bushmaster and an AMEETEC. My third will be another AMEETEC.
Really you cant go wrong with any major company. RRA, bushmaster, and DPMS are all great just some have differnt finishes and options.
20 inchers have more velocity and a lighter recoil but are heavier and not as easy to handle. |
So it really doesn't matter? What about chrome lined bores and different receivers and such?
Chrome lined? Yes
How much money are you looking to spend? Intended purposes? A2 vs flat top upper reciever. Do you want optics? For reliability and durability: COLT and LMT |
im very happy with colt , had for about 10 years now without a problem . keep in mind if in your budget
I'm interested in an A3 configeration with removable carry handle so i can use red dots and night vision if i want.. I like options. I'd prefer to get a deal but am willing to spend the cash for a better quality rifle.(if that's what it takes)

I just purchased an Armalite A3/M4 carbine and love it! If you get the chance, stop and take a look at one of the Armalites and you'll be impressed!!!!!!!

I've had a Colt for 33 years and I really enjoy it. During the last two years I built on a CMT and a Global Tactical Stag lowers and I find them to be as nice as the Colt. Stag is the front sales name for CMT. Denny at GTS had Stag to make a batch of lowers without the Stag head, but with the GTS logo. CMT is known as the builder of lowers for Colt.
Check it out globaltactical.com |

To buy a complete rifle, for a first timer: Armalite, Bushmaster, Colt, DPMS, Rock River, and Stag will all do nicely. Its really up to you what company you want to buy from, and how much you want to spend as each company's products vary in price. Some say Colt is better than everyone else, some don't. In my opinion, all are very nice manufactures who make very nice products. You really cant go wrong with any of them. Best of luck!

+1 I agree with the above statement. One other thing you might want to figure in is which of those has the best or longest warrenty and customer service. Something to think about for the long haul and piece of mind for your investment. Check MFG. websight for that info. |

CMMG ! Awesome customer service , 4150 steel vs. 4140 , chrome line standard not a $100 option like RRA. and alot of barrel, gas and upper combo options to choose from
It's a $40 option not $100. |
I think i'm leaning towards a Bushmaster. I'm thinking about getting the 16 inch barrel model and perhaps later on getting a 20 -24 inch upper for long shots,

Lewis Machine and tool Stag Colt Go with the 20" and it will eat all ammo. I've had problems with 9 16" AR's I've owned but not with 20". Some problems worse then others. LMT would be my top choice 16" or 20". I'm now happy with Stag upper and Bushmaster lower Jewell 2 stage in 6.8spc. |
I'll keep this in mind. Perhaps i'll go with a 20 inch model and get an extra 24 inch upper. I jave another question, what the deal with the M4 feed ramps? Do they actually improve feeding reliability or just marketing hype? |
If you can afford it the Colt 6920 is a very nice AR. RRA's standard models do not have a chrome lined bore.
You're from MO, you HAVE to buy CMMG. Support the local guy man! www.cmmginc.com You won't regret it. Fair prices, excellent customer service and a very high quality rifle. Do it.

Colt. |

Bushmaster. Though there are the other two Colt and Armalite. The ABC's of AR's. Proven reliability.

I should probably go shoot it before I give good reviews, but I'm sitting here finger farking my new CMMG 20" medcon and couldn't be happier. If you are near KC you could catch them tommorrow and the funshow and see what they offer firsthand. |

I jave another question, what the deal with the M4 feed ramps? Do they actually improve feeding reliability or just marketing hype? Good choice and get the 1:8 twist with the 24". Colt, LMT, or Stag are good. LMT Colt In that order. But there are other folks who've had good luck with other makes. |
That ramps will help you feed more types of ammunition reliably. If you're looking for a decent 20" I own RRA's Standard A4 which will eat virtually anything with little cleaning and function perfectly till the barrel begins to melt a plastic buckle attached to my sling.
I was checking their site. Nice. It seems that they have the M4 feed ramps as well as phantom flash hiders installed. This is what i was looking for because i was planning on using my rifle with night vision at times and need the extra flash supression. Now i'm all confused. Ok, out of these 3 should i go with RRA Bushmaster or CMMG? Or should i get any model and just get a good upper?(since from what i'm hearing the uppers have all the important parts) |

RRA Bushmaster or CMMG? Buy 'em all... Now it's homework time you've narrowed down to 3. I've owned Bushmaster I've owned some that worked well some didn't. Armalite, all carbines seem to work well. Colt most worked well 1 didn't which was the M-4. Stag, so far so good too early to tell. So is it 20" RRA or CMMG? |
I just ordered my first AR after lots of research. I bought an RRA Elite CAR A4 from Legal Transfers. By far, the best price and easy to work with. You have to wait a little to get the rifle as RRA seems to be backed up, but I have more patience than money.
Check out the prices and you will see that you get the best value with an RRA. Look at AR15sales.com. My 2 cents. |
For factory rifles..........
Colt LMT Bushmaster, CMMG, RRA, Armalite The rest |
Lots of people say COLT but the're expensive and don't offer much to non LEO's and MIlitary.
RRA, LMT, Stag, Colt are good. One shooter did his homework on RRA. Check 'em out.
RRA is not any way near top level. They are back ordered because their parts are on ships in route from China! They out source all their parts! Plus they do not QC the parts! |
If this is true ,than this rules out RRA. China makes junk everything. I'll probably go with Bushmaster or just buy a $650.00 DPMS A1 special and get different uppers. |

The Colt LE guns are available if you look hard enough you can even find a reasonable price for one. The last NIB 6920 cost me 1074. However expect to pay between 1200-1400 for one at this point |
