I have a 20" Colt HBAR that I want to lighten up for patrol use.

I am looking for a reliable gun smith to do the work. The problem I have is I need the upper back in less than 5 weeks for requals.

Any suggestions on smiths, type of profile, flash suppressors etc.... would be appreciated.

Thanks

Buy M4 or Superlight barrel. Barrel wrench, ROLL PIN Punch and have at it. Take you less than a week to order parts and have your AR back together. Otherwise I would talk to gunshop or gunsmith. OR you can jus order a complete Upper with M4 barrel and push out the take down pins and change uppers. That surely should take less than 5 weeks. lol.

The hotset up seems to be m4 barrel with Phantom Flashhider.

I would check out Kurt's Kustom Firearms or ADCO. They can recountour and/or shorten the barrel for you and should have it all done well under 5 weeks.

ADCO seems to be the way to go. I just sent them an E-Mail with my request.

Does anyone have experience with the Phantom flash suppressor?

Thanks for the replies.....

I have a Phantom, but its not at all necessary on a full sized rifle. 16" and below really need it though.

I just lightened an old 16" AR barrel i had. I turned it down to .625 and refinished with moly resin. IT came out really good and Im very happy with the weight and finish. Im half tempted to take it back off and flute it though. Something tells me it will add rigidity and add style. I guess Ive got too much spare time

Ive heard adco has good turnaround but KKF is kinda slow. Although KKF is in your state.

I just printed a request to fax to KKF. I have heard good things about Kurt; however, time (without loss of quality) is a factor at this point and ADCO seems to be very quick with high quality.

Now the question is which way to go with the rifle.

I was thinking of shortening it to the FSB, adding a suppressor and turning it down under the hand guards.

I was also thinking of putting an ACE Skeleton stock on it for more weight savings.

I can say that the ACE stock really works well and I'm happy with the weight savings, but if you're really used to keeping items in the trapdoor of your A2 then make sure you always have an empty pocket.
