I was loading some magazines with the standard bulk pack Walmart ammo when I noticed that some ammo has a redish ring around the primer and some has a greenish ring. Is there a difference?
(2nd) question if you are shooting for target accuracy and you drop a round from a standard 4 ft height, regardless  if you can see a real blemish on the bullet would you still fire it? Just wondering if the ballistics could be jeopardized on a average 100-200 meter shot.

The ring around the primer is the sealant. Different manufacturers/countries use different colors. For instance Guatemalan 5.56 is green while Privi 5.56 is red. If there was no damage to the bullet or case, then I would fire it. I try to not drop my ammo though.

Bullet wont fire by dropping it

even throwing in the fire all it will do is pop

Selant used to seal the primmer

The green isn't ripe yet.

No i didn't notice any dents. I have reburied the green ones and will wait a few for them to ripen

Different colors of sealant in the same manufacturer's product could indicate anything from a different lot to "we ran out of red and had green on hand."

They will not ripen if you bury them. They need to be wrapped in newspaper.

haha...

I have been through quite a few boxes of the walmart 100rd federal. I have yet to find a dented round. Definitely a lot of christmas colors in their boxes.
