Rolly: No problem, I understand you being sceptical. I'm still having trouble believing it myself. If you're ever heading to NW Montana, give me a holler.......we can go do some shooting.
Let me give you guys some more detail. I'm running a Jewell 2 stage trigger, Nightforce NXS 3.5-15 on a LaRue SPR mount. Along with the WOA barrell and bolt, those are the only parts I would claim helped me improve my accurracy.
The most important factor was ammo selection. I shot groups with many brands and weights before I was able to narrow it down to the Black Hills 77's. I first shot 5, 5 shot groups at 1 & 2 hundred yards with all the different ammo. I then averaged all the groups of each type of ammo, to narrow it down to 5 different loads to test at longer ranges. What I found out was that loads that did the best at 1 & 2 hundred yards weren't always the best at longer ranges.
All my groups have been shot prone on a Harris bipod and a rear sandbag. I'm also shooting in a lane that was cleared of trees for a power line......so I have thick forest on both sides that make a pretty effective wind break. What wind I get is usually a head wind at no more than a 11 or 1 o'clock angle.
When I say 1/2 moa consistantly, I mean that every outing that I've shot groups(almost every weekend), I've gotten multiple groups under 1/2 moa. I've gotten several 2 1/4 groups at 500. Yes, those are my best groups of the day, my worst are usually in the 5 to 6 range. If I were to average all my 500 groups I would probably be about 3 1/2. So, I'm not claiming that I can shoot that well every time, however I do know that the gun is very capable of doing so when I do my part.
Also keep in mind, these are mostly 3 shot groups. I have was doing 5, but it was getting too expensive. I also have to clean the barrel after 15-20 rounds to keep that level of accurracy.
