Cabelas has the Vortex Spitfire 1X Prism Sight on sale for $179 (regular price $299).  What are folks opinion on this product?

I have 2 - both have been trouble free and have worked well for me.
May want to check out Palmetto State Armory - they sometimes have sales combo with the optic and P-Mags.

My Gen 1 works great.

I prefer the Gen 1 version with the modular mount over the Gen 2 version's fixed AR15 height. I don't turn on the illumination enough to worry about battery life that the Gen 2's bigger battery offers.

I have 6.

2 of the older 1301 model, 4 of the AR model. I prefer the newer models, both for the AAA batteries, and I find them to be a more sleek design. Mounting height means nothing to me, as its fixed at a lower 1/3 cowitnesss, which is where I want them anyways.

I also agree with the comment about battery life not being a big deal, as I generally find just the black etched reticle works well for me.

I have the spitfire 1X and 3X. Love them both.
Keep the 3X on my hunting AR and the 1X on the HD gun.
Have no complaints thus far (knock on wood).

I would pick up another in a second of needed.

I looked at one but passed due to weight.  All the weight of a magnified prism scope but none of the magnification.  The etched reticle was attractive over something like a standard dot sight. But that wasn't a big enough deal to sway me on the weight side.

I have the early one on my 22lr pistol AR and love it. it works great with my astigmatism with the etched reticle. I have had it for several years now and no problems so far.

with old handguard and drum mag

I have the 3x on my A4 clone and love it!   No one had the 1x in sick when l was ready to buy so l can't really comment on it other than l was sure l wanted modest magnification over none.

Same here.
I did notice that what was in stock at my local store are first generation scopes tho.
Those use 3032 batteries instead of AAA.
I prefer the AAA.

I wish I didn't think it looked stupid.  Because I like it in theory.  I have no clue why I think it looks stupid either.  Seems like a good idea.  Anyone have any pics of it mounted without those caps on it?   Or a pic of one that someone thinks it looks good.  Maybe painted??????

I snagged one up and had a $20 off $150 coupon they sent.

So far I like it buts it's pretty big.

Shooting with both eyes open is a little off. It seems like there is a small magnification on it, but I just may need to play with the reticle focus

I have the first gen x1 and one AR x1

I like the first gen on/off rotary switch but the sleek look and AAA bat on the AR model
I rarely turn them on. I do find just a simple red dot to be faster for me
