Opinions wanted:

I've seen some pix of VFGs mounted on those handguard rail thingies that you bolt onto the standard handguards;  anyone use this setup?

My primary question deals with durability;  just how torque-resistant are these rails?   They seem like a (relatively) cheap way to mount a VFG without going the full-deal rail system/FF tube.

I had a GG&G rail mounted on a CAR handguard in the past. It actually worked well. It was sturdy enough. When I switched to an M4 handguard, I could no longer mount the rails on it due to the double heat shields.

Let me make it clear tho that it was merely a plinking rifle. I am not LEO or military. My rifles are not subjected to "abuse" day to day.

"just how torque-resistant are these rails"

The amount of torque "they can handle" is directly proportionate to the amount of torque your handguard can handle. Also, with regard "movement" - If your handguard has a snug / tight fit, then you will have very minimal movement. But if your handguard has some play on it - then forget about this type of setup. You may find yourself holding a VG with just the bottom of your handguard attached to it!

My handguards are pretty tight right now.  This isn't for a duty rifle by any stretch;  I'm just thought-experimenting on some alternative grip ideas.

My thinking right now is to go ahead try out this setup;  if I really like the VFG then as budget allows I'd be getting a railed float tube.  If I don't like the VFG then I'll just eat the bolt-on rails or use them for a cheapie bipod attachement or somesuch.
