I just got this RRA upper and noticed the finish is worn off in the upper receiver...

Is it supposed to look like this?

I even put a little CLP but it seems to keep coming back, I havent even shot it yet.

Nope. That looks like one of those Del-ton uppers.

Send it back.....

FALARAK, I take it you know what's going with the upper receiver in that pic so, if you wouldn't mind, would you please elaborate. I did a quick search on Del-ton uppers but didn't turn up any posts with info that might pertain to a problem of this nature.

It almost looks like the anodizing is peeling......but anodizing isn't supposed to peel sinc it is part of the aluminum.

Wierd.

I bought some RRA upper parts and I had to send them back -- poor workmanship.
Link Posted: 3/3/2005 10:00:56 PM EDT
there was a bad batch several months ago.
it is pretty well known about.
You shouldn't have a problem getting it replaced by whomever you boughtt it from, or RRA.

I waited forever for this upper to get in stock, god only knows how long it would take to get a replacement.

buy a CMT instead, you won't be disapointed.

I would try to work this out with RRA directly and don't do an exchange until they are ready to replace it immediately. Also consider that they should (and probably will) take care of a customer that has a problem first. I'm going to keep an eye on this thread because I should be getting my RRA 9mm upper in the next week or so and hope I don't have this problem as well.

Yeah, maybe the anodizing wasn't put on correctly, that is what my guess would be.
Link Posted: 3/4/2005 3:35:08 AM EDT
whoa!!!

that looks bad.....

Man...that's no big deal. That is the dry film lube coming off, notice that it's gray. I had one also back when I used Tetra instead of CLP and the Tetra was making that stuff come off. I used some break cleaner and cleaned the rest of it off. I have over 2K through it with no troubles. That stuff is just applied over your anodizing, you don't really need it! Some companies use it and some don't. Just clean the rest of that crap out of there and go shoot it!
Link Posted: 3/4/2005 3:49:08 AM EDT
Damn

Send it back.

There is not a thing wrong with it, just some of the micron-thick protective teflon coating peeling off. Send an email to RRA with the pics attached, they will confirm.
Lube your bolt rails and go shoot that bad boy.

Link Posted: 3/4/2005 4:17:34 AM EDT
buy an SNS upper, i'm almost certain you won't have to wait for one, the fit and finish are astounding with the one i have.

Link Posted: 3/4/2005 4:47:34 AM EDT
What a joke! send that junk back!

I don't care what anyone calls it... For my money, I want NOTHING peeling off inside my receiver, good, bad no matter. I would return it...

I'm becoming less and less an RRA proponent as I see more of these posts...

Something we should all keep in mind is that the current demand for all AR products is at an all time high. Almost every manufacturer is struggling to keep up with demand. I'm not surprised that QC has slipped a little bit. Mind you, I'm not saying it's OK, I'm just saying we shouldn't be that surprised.

For $500 there is no excuse for the finish peeling off on the upper. I havent even shot it yet either.

Does anyone else have this problem?? If so can you share pics?
Link Posted: 3/4/2005 9:45:28 AM EDT
Normally I wouldn't worry about cosmetic things like that but it looks like its becoming MORE of a problem, so I'd get a hold of RRA and sent it back.
Link Posted: 3/4/2005 9:46:57 AM EDT
no

return it if you can

Unless it was your intention to get an upper with wearing finish. You should get what you want with what you paid for.
Link Posted: 3/4/2005 10:12:53 AM EDT
The upper was contaminated with oil or other material and not cleaned properly before being annodized .Send it back for replacement as the part is defective .

Just send it back. Don't worry about it taking too long, they've got receivers in stock. From what I've seen it is barrels and simple shop time that are the problems.
Link Posted: 3/4/2005 10:32:56 AM EDT
Maybe RRA decided to NOT be like Bushie and go ahead and rush production to give in to the whiners.
Link Posted: 3/4/2005 6:03:34 PM EDT
Well I let it soak while I was at work with some CLP and it seems the finish is back...

Maybe it was just a very dry area that had not seen any lubricant

here are some more pics

It "seems to look beter", im still kind of disappionted in the finish. My Bushmaster Upper looked nothing like this.

I just dont want to be a pain in the ass customer
Link Posted: 3/4/2005 6:29:54 PM EDT
Are those tool marks?!
Link Posted: 3/4/2005 6:34:13 PM EDT
Looks like bad quality control to me. How that passed inspection is beyond me.
Technically nothing wrong with it but it is not a confidence builder. Like buying a car with a shit paint job.
Link Posted: 3/4/2005 7:23:13 PM EDT
So do you guys think I should just shoot it or send it back?
Link Posted: 3/4/2005 7:34:14 PM EDT
Your money dude, do what ever YOU think is the correct course of actions.
Link Posted: 3/4/2005 7:45:10 PM EDT
So, hypothetically if you ordered an attractive mail-order bride and she showed up with bad acne and potmarked skin, you'd keep her?

stop dicking around and send it back !!!!
Link Posted: 3/4/2005 7:59:53 PM EDT
I contacted the dealer for a refund as I dont want to wait for a replacement
Link Posted: 3/4/2005 7:59:59 PM EDT
Send it back, if for no other reason than to let them know we as consumers won't stand for inferior products.
Link Posted: 3/4/2005 8:13:07 PM EDT
My RRA upper doesn't look like that! If it did, I believe I would send it back. YMMV
Link Posted: 3/4/2005 8:27:48 PM EDT
Send it back. Another reason to send it back is for the excessive tooling marks along the inside.

Just be prepared for a possible long wait (maybe a month or two months) for the replacement to arrive (in the mean while, you are empty handed). Not facts, just my quess as to what you should expect. But, send it back, it will be worth the wait.

My cousin just received a RRA lower and Butstock from RRA. The lower was scratched up and the mag release button was missing finish. The butstock was a light gray in color. I also observed several new stocks from RRA at my dealers shop and they were a very light gray also. They almost look bleached.
When a person pays for an item, it should look new and not bleached from the sun stock) and thrown accross a table (receiver).
He did call RRA and they did say that they would replace the items. However, they said he could have to waite another 6 months.
I've owned 4 RRA's and this latest products look like shit at least these do.

A buddy of mine told me about RR having some of these problems. I was just starting to look for my first AR. Every thing I saw on this website about RR was good news. I have a Colt and a Bushy now and was thinking about a RR but I'm not sure after seeing this. Whats every one think? To RR or not to RR? Maybe a LMT build instead?
Link Posted: 3/4/2005 9:12:03 PM EDT
I just received an Lewis Machine & Tool complete lower and it looks fantastic. That is what I'm going to purchase again for my next build.
Link Posted: 3/4/2005 9:12:46 PM EDT
Anyone else have some pics of the interior of their Uppers for comparision?
