can't see too much of it....looks to have an integral suppressor, I can't tell if it's 7.62 or 5.56
Link Posted: 8/31/2004 4:40:58 PM EST
Thats a big damn photo right there.
Link Posted: 8/31/2004 4:44:29 PM EST
Looks like an M16/M4 with FF Handguards and a can. Pic was too small to tell though.
Link Posted: 8/31/2004 4:45:54 PM EST
It really is big; one of the biggest I have seen.
Link Posted: 8/31/2004 4:51:12 PM EST
You sure he's a Marine?

Anyways... Gives a new meaning to the phrase 'Whispering Death'.
Link Posted: 8/31/2004 4:52:53 PM EST
Looking at the way the suppressor attaches to the front sight block, it leads me to believe it's a Knights 30cal can.

Didn't the Marines recently pick up the MK11 Mod0?
Link Posted: 8/31/2004 4:53:33 PM EST
Looks like a SR25 from the way the suppressor is attached to the gas block.

I'm pretty sure they did - but I thought it was for the DMR role, to replace the M-14 DMR.

I am rather sure though that SEAL units have used the SR-25 before. His uniform is unmarked from what I can tell.

Why does he have a video camera?
Link Posted: 8/31/2004 5:02:58 PM EST
the photo is hosted by USMC.mil
It's is from the recent fighting in Najaf
Link Posted: 8/31/2004 5:09:30 PM EST
Its an SR-25 mk11 mod0 with the neato KAC quick disconnect can (problems abound this supressor). I know the 1st mar div has had em for a while and also the ar-10t with OPS INC .308 can..
Link Posted: 8/31/2004 5:18:28 PM EST

A sniper's abillity to gather and pass on info about the enemy is more important than just shooting. Video cameras/Digital cameras are used to send intel via satcom to HQ.

I wonder about the structural integrity of a building with that much mortar between the bricks.

IIRC the PSG1 has a camera that shows the view through the scope when the trigger is pulled.

There is a camera that hooks up to it and snaps I believe four pics when the trigger is pulled. I'd like to see some of those "action shots."

Those cuffs are also similar to the ones the NYPD is using when arresting protesters.

Flex cuffs are very popular among police offers. Especially entry teams.

He is wearing a United States Army uniform not a Jarhead uniform. The Marines don't use the same camos as the Army anymore.

It hasn't been completely implemeted yet.
The photo is hosted by the USMC, I would think that they'd know.

boy im glad peganswede was here to set us all straight....here ive been wearing army uniforms lately!!!!!!

<BR>

how does your foot taste?
Link Posted: 9/2/2004 3:12:42 AM EST
The picture is probably of a US army trooper. Although the tri color cammies are being worn by all the services (Marines in limited numbers) if you look at the picture you can see he is wearing a US flag on his right sleeve (pretty much an indicator of army).

STLRN thanks for the back up. And I have not seen a single Marine not wearing their digi camos lately, its pretty well implemted. Also army.mil has Marines in some of their photos so why can't marines.mil have soldiers?

Oh so how does your foot taste now?
Link Posted: 9/2/2004 12:27:47 PM EST
its not too friendly to DSL either

5.56; diameter is too small for a .30

Marpat is hard to come by...even if you are in the Corp....not every Marine has it yet

Link Posted: 9/2/2004 1:07:00 PM EST
I know its didn't happen 100 percent of the time, but I MEF's requirement to deploy to Iraq was ever Marine gat issued 2 sets of desert MCCUUs.

Unlike 02 when they started to hit the system MCCUUs are not that uncommon anymore.

Yeah it's either Army or OGA but since there's a flag that pretty much eliminates OGA. I think the USMC only uses a suppressor on the DMR and M40A3 rifles.

The picture in question is part of an article on the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit.

Being a hunter, I have always been concerned about anything that would create glare on or around me. In looking at this picture, I would be concerned with the glare coming off of the water bottle and the silencer. Anyone else see this? This guy I'm sure knows much more about concealment that I will ever learn....Just my $.00005 worth.

Possible but not very probable. If someone out in the brightness of the daylight is trying to look into the darkness of an enclosed room they usually won't see anything because of the sun. If the sniper were out in the daylight yes the bottle, and glint off the lenses could give his position away. Try this. Open your house windows on a bright day and walk 50 meters from your house and try to see in. I'll bet you won't be able to see much into the rooms.

I'd be a bit more concerned about the light coming from behind through the openings of the OP, silhouetting a decent head shot.
But as stated, I'm sure this shooter knows his stuff.

Gotta pretty shaggy hair do for a Marine. Looks like a light beard too.
Link Posted: 9/4/2004 3:11:54 AM EST
The rifle is absolutely/positively one of our (KAC) Mk 11 Mod 0's. The supressor is also ours, one of our 7.62 "QD's".
