Did the military make a bipod for the M16?

If so, does anyone know where to purchase a USGI M16 bipod?

Yes, a clamp on bipod was made in the early days, that clipped on the barrel at the front sight base.  It will only fit the A1 type barrels, that are much smaller in diameterat that point than current types.

The durn thing will only put scars on the finish of your barrel, change the point of inpact if you use it to shoot, and generally be useless, which is why they don't issue them any more[:D].

On the other hand, if you just want one for collection purposes, try SARCO www.sarcoinc.com

Thanks Shamayim.

I wanted it for shooting purposes, but after hearing your report I think I will check out the Harris bipods.  I hear a lot of good reports on them.

Thanks again.
