Gee, I think that's about it for now.  Course if you got enough money, I'm sure someone could do a custom job.

Uppers for the AR? As in calibers?  Well you got the following choices that I know of:

.17 Remington

.20 Tactical (Tony's latest creation)
.22LR
.222
.223 & 5.56 (I'll lump them together)
6mmx45
6mm PPC
6mm Whisper
6.5mm Whisper
7mm PPC
7mm Whisper

.30 Carbine (new upper by OLY)
7.62x39
.300 Whisper (AKA .300 firebolt)
.338 Whisper
9mm
.357 Mag (Tony made some before stopping production)
.357 Auto Mag (see .357 mag)

.40 S&W
10mm
.44 Magnum (see story of .357 mag)
.44 Auto Mag (again see .357 Mag)
.45ACP
.458 SOCOM (Yeah Baby!!!)

.50AE
.50 Beowulf
.50 BMG (that a big YEAH BABY!!)

.300 whisper rounds will use the same magazines at .223 (as will the .458 SOCOM & .50 Beowulf).  Its a .221 Firbolt IIRC necked up to .30 caliber.  Its intended purpose is as a subsonic round (for use with a supressor).  Several people produce .300 Whisper barrels/uppers but call it something else (i.e. KKF & Oly both do this), only SSK (the inventors) call it the .300 Whisper.  For more info see this page http://www.quarterbore.com/300whisper/

Tony Rumore was making 44Mag & .357 Mag uppers before he closed his shop.  If you look around on the for-sale boards you might find one for sale.

P.S.  Yes all the above calibers have been made into AR-15 uppers, with the possible exception of some of the SSK Whispers.  I do know the .300 whisper is an AR upper - I have not heard of the others - yet they use the same case so there is no reason why an upper could not or has not been made for them (I'll bet they are rare).  Those Whisper rounds all use the standard AR-15 bolt and M-16 magazines.

The .20 Tactical is a very new caliber Tony was recently talking about at Assaultweb.net http://assaultweb.net/ubb/Forum2/HTML/003673.html

The .50 BMG uppers are only single shot - but they are AR-15 uppers .

.30 Carbine you say?

The AR being a better over all weapon that the M1 carbine about what whould you think the range is?
Better that the 100-125 yards you get from a M1 car I hope.

While the .30 Carbine uppered AR-15 is a better weapon than the M1 Carbine IMHO - that doesn't figure in at all in flight or terminal ballistics.

They both use a 16" barrel and the same cartridge.  So the bullet will fly the same and hit the same.  The only difference will be the height of the sights and where the optimal zero will be.

An AR has a heavier and thicker barrel and doesn't have a MI carbine type gas block to disrupt barrel harmonics, this should be able to increase muzzle velocity due to the tighter action not "limp wristing" the cartridge.

If it was close to the performance of 7.62X39 I'd be happy.
