What is the difference between these two BM M4s:

Bushmaster 16" M4 w/Izzy Flash Suppressor
Part # BCWA3F 14M4 IZ

Bushmaster 16in M4 Type Carbine with Bird Cage Flash Suppressor
Part # BCWA3F 16M4

Is the only difference the different type of flash suppressors? If so, which one is better or do you recommend?

Difference is the Barrel length.

The first has a 14.5" barrel with a permanently affixed Flash Supressor to bring the barrel length to 16"

The second has a 16" barrel plust a threaded flash supressor that you can remove at any time (but it means the overall length of the rifle is an inch or so more than the other one).

If I read correctly, the 16" with Izzy is the 14.5" barrel and the Izzy permantly attached makes it the 16" legal.

The 16" with the birdcage is 16" + the birdcage. In this case the suppressor is removable.

Which one to get is a matter of personal preference.  I have the 14.5 with Phantom. I like the 14.5 look instead of the 16".

Can someone tell me exactly how long the 16" barrel with standard FS is?

The advantage of the full 16" is you get a threaded barrel.  This will give you options later if you desire.   If it doesn't matter to you, the 14.5 is just fine.

Yes but I can put either one of my cans on a16" and be leagal, Can't do that with the pinned Phantom and the 150 FPS you loose is not worth it.

Rubicon:

Per Bushmaster, the 16" bbl + A2 FH is 17-3/4" w/ OAL of 36-1/8". However, another e-mail from them states that while the A2 is 1-3/4" long, it only adds 1-1/8" to length of bbl. That would be 17-1/8". From measuring Colt LE Carbine w/16" bbl and A2, the 17-1/8" is more correct. Hope this helps...

What kind of options are you talking about?

It will also bee a whole lot easier to install free floating handguards that need removal of the front sight base.

Anyone have any thoughts on Birdcage FS vs. Izzy FS?

Also, would the extra 1 1/2" in barrel length give better accuracy??

benny, I have heard grea tthings about the izzy.
The 16" bbl will allow better accuracy at longer ranges, I believe it will only be noticeable on targets out past 100 yards. The added 1 1/2" will also give slightly better velocity too.
I had a hard time with this decision too, so I did what any clear thinking, rational man would do.....I bought one of each!

For the distances an M4 length weapon was designed for the difference in barrel length you are dealing with is meaningless imho. For my personal  weapon I chose the 14.5" A2.
