I see both 1/7 and 1/8 twist rates on 10.5" barrels.  Which make more sense for this shorter barrel length?  I know that bullet choice is a factor.

I think either is just fine from a 10.5" barrel chambered in 5.56. You may get a bit more velocity with a 1:8 twist, but the 1:7 twist may stabilize the heavier bullets better.
