My Pre-ban Colt trigger guard has a roll pin on the rear that I can remove. The front roll pin has only 1 opening on the mag release side. How can I remove the forward pin?

You don't.

Just push it in and the trigger guard will come right out.  That is the release detent for the 'winter trigger guard'.  Normally you push it in and swing the trigger guard down so you can use mittons with the AR-15.
