I'm thinking about building a new rifle and I want it to be simple, light weight, and sturdy enough for a SHTF situation. Here's my specs....what do you think:

CMMG Lower with LPK, MIAD grip, CTR stock
CMMG a1/c7 upper with 1/7 16" M4 profile barrel, a2 flash hider

I think this would be one of the most basic KISS rifles I could build. What do you guys think about these specs? Anyone else build a rifle like this? Would you change anything?

THanks,
Mark

Mark,
Superb choice. Lots of people are building
IDF-style A1/M4 hybrids these days.
I would look at the 14.7 option as well.
Post pics when you get it done.

My first build was almost exactly the same.
Keep the C7 upper, but ditch the M4 barrel for a 1/7 .gov profile middy.

Agreed with above posters. Excellent choices, though I too would adopt a mid-length over a 16" w/ Car gas system.... If only from a personal disliking due to asthetics.

I know alot here think the DI system is good enough and I don't know if you have any interest in piston AR's, but if you do for just a little bit more you can get a nice LWRC or POF.

I considered spending the money on this LWRC M6 myself, but it wasn't exactly what I was looking for so I bought POF upper and Mega lower instead.

Here's a smoking deal at the current price for a Predator rail POF upper,

I have\have had both a 14.5" M4 KISS build and a 16" middy KISS build. I have since sold the middy but still have the 14.5". Don't get me wrong, I like middy's and they do have some incremental advantages over carbines but I greatly preferred the weight, balance, handling of the 14.5" carbine over the 16" middy.

If you do go carbine and are going to order from CMMG, I would get the 14.7" so that you can use the standard A2 FH. The A2's work just fine, look "right" and if you have have to get it cut off and replaced sometime down the road (not likely but possible), I would rather cut off and replace a $5 FH rather then a $25 + FH

I have the exact same lower in stag with same grip and CTR. Im looking at a A1/cmmg 1/7 m4 or middy profile. I had the cmmg middy lightweight and it was very well balanced and light. So Im up in the air about which one to get

This link shows a pretty nice setup that may help you get some ideas.... It is an IDF clone, I like it alot, very handy looking. Also there is an IDF supplier link in there somewhere.

I'm thinking instead of the m4 barrel I might try the CMMG 16" mid length gov. profile barrel. Anyone have any experience with this barrel?
