Been waiting on this for something like two years. Looks like it is finally coming down the pipeline. What do you guys think?

EDIT:

For reference, here is my SBR'd AXTS AX556 lower (attached to a Noveske upper). For those not in the know, AXTS makes what many believe is one of the nicest lowers in the industry. Mil-spec forged lowers are reliable, strong, light and battle proven but if you happen to already own a few of those and want ambidextrous bleeding-edge tech, this is the lower for you. The only real penalties I see are weight and parts commonality.

Must admit that continued pmag pattern looks pretty sick.

Breaking the (Facebook) news as it happens...

Not sure about this one but it is in the series of pictures posted:

Upon second examination, the above pic does appear to be the new AXTS upper. Looks like M-Lok is in the playbook.

I hope you want to buy the complete upper because stripped AX556 uppers will not be available for individual sale.

Yeah their upper is machined to mate up with their handguard. I'm glad to see that they went with M-LOK. There attachment method appears to be similar to Geissele's but looks to use a total of 4 cross bolts (2 on each side). It appears that they also did it right in that the barrel nut doesn't require indexing.

I like how they have been very careful not to show the left side of the upper. :)

This stuff looks sweet.

ETA: $430 for that lower is a bit steep.

Perhaps......but seeing that you will no longer be able to purchase one that isn't part of a complete rifle they just became more than worth the price. Glad I bought mine earlier this year.

I like, I wonder what a complete rifle sells for? Maybe after Christmas, lol!!!!

Judging by the pricing on the stripped lowers I would imagine that prices on the complete rifles will be on the higher end. Time will tell.

That lower is a cut above. A little rich for my blood but still a very unique and functional looking lower. Judging from the price of that lower ... I could see prices for a set reaching into the $750 range.

I'll be damned if that doesnt look GOOD though. Love how they incorporated the mounting bolts vertically, just makes sense and looks more streamlined

Take a look at my username. I'll always prefer mil spec/clones. But having a maserati in the garage (or in this case gun safe) is ok too.

Very interested to see the complete rifle. I love my AXTS lower. Definitely the nicest lower that I own and IMHO worth the premium price.
Link Posted: 12/23/2014 6:45:40 PM EST
I actually started with AXTS, Mega and a Gen 2 Noveske lowers (we'll... after the prerequisite gun show DPMS Oracle). Then I got into the clone game. It gave me a great appreciation for the standard forged lowers. Milspec556 is right though... It's nice to have a bleeding edge piece in the collection.

To be dead honest, I'm a little let down by what I have seen so far in regards to the AXTS upper. The lower was Form Follows Function with a little bit of magwell bling. This thing looks like like a sculpture that just happens to shoot 5.56 ammunition. I really need to see the completed gun (on Dec 25th) before deciding whether I am sold on it.

Although I dig the lower and upper...I'm a plain jane kinda guy. I will say that I was thinking about getting a Raptor, but after seeing the Talon, order was placed for both.

Excellent comment on FB attached to that bottom rail pic.

"Shot of the bottom of our rail. one more day and pictures will show it all."

Guess it's gonna be a Merry Christmas.

I'll be that guy. I think it looks good style wise, but I would never own one. Too flashy.

Give me a plain jane A2 or flat top upper and lower I won't feel bad about getting dirty. The difference is a lot of ammo, toys, or another gun.
Link Posted: 12/24/2014 3:47:37 PM EST
Nice piece but too many proprietary parts.

I think it would look alot less flashy in black. That is how i would take one... if I was ever in the market to spend upwards of $1000 just for the Rail, upper and lower receivers

Agreed. I'd like some more specs on the barrel and BCG, but so far that looks like one of the very few complete rifles I'd actually buy.

Our precision match grade barrels start out as a Shilen 416R blank with a 1 in 8 twist and are turned to our custom profile with a length of 14.5". They feature a chamber in in .223 Wylde as well as a hand polished crown and are fitted with the highest quality barrel extensions with polished feed ramps. We are experiencing sub .5" MOA with our barrels with 55, 62, and 77 grain ammunition.

The MI-T556’s bolt carrier is manufactured from case hardened 8620 steel with properly staked 4130 steel gas key. The accompanying bolt is case hardened 9310 steel, shot peened, HPT and MPI tested, and finished in a self-lubricating polished black nitride. Bolt lugs are CNC ground following heat treatment to insure the greatest accuracy possible.

They sound pretty hi-speed. I would prefer a 158 carpenter steel bolt though... simply from a "tried and true" standpoint.
Link Posted: 12/25/2014 4:46:27 PM EST
Barrel definitely sounds good. I'd prefer a C158 bolt too, but at least it's something that's easily replaceable. As long as it's priced competitively they should have a real winner here.

Here's a shot of the other side. Nice looking upper but I won't be swapping off my existing upper which has a 16" barrel and 15" M-LOK handguard. I was expecting something that tied into the PMAG design. A little dissappointing.

Side note PFran...I'm about to SBR my lower as well and was curious where on the lower you had it engraved? Or did you go the collegeboy route and engrave the barrel?

I did it on the angled flat on top of the magwell where it meets the upper. Hope that makes sense.

Just looked at it. I misspoke. The engraving is on the left side flat under the make/model/caliber.
