How do you like the Eotech? I was thinking about getting one but can't decide between that or the Aimpoint ML2.

_DR,

Personally I love my EOTech 552, it works great for my setup and I really like the reticle!  I went from an Aimpoint to my EOTech and never looked back.

With that being said you can't loose with either optic.  The Aimpoint is also an excellent combat proven optic.  The best thing to do is try them both and use the one that works best for you.

really looking more for a good CQB optic than anything. Leaning towards the Eotech. Thanks for the input. Very nice setup by the way.

Cap,

I got the Surefire M900a from Brightflashlights on EE.  IIRC, I paid about $430.  So far it has lived up to the hype and I like it a lot. The M900a is one of the best purchases I've ever made.  Shortly after I got it I retrofitted it with the older shorter style battery cap and I like the lower profile better.

One of these days I'll make it to one of the Ohio shoots and you can give her a try.[:D]

Hammerdrop - I'm glad you like it!  This site is well known for causing people to spend a lot more than they originally intended.  I thought all I needed was a RAS but now look at me...[BD]

Inferno715 - Yup, I'd like a sound supressor!  Too many accessories to buy and not enough money...

eswanson - LOL![naughty][:D]

552bigdog - I believe it was said here, that a monkey could install a SIR-M and a retarded monkey could install a SIR-C...[;)]

The install was very easy and can be done in 5 minutes!  If you can turn a screwdriver than you should be able to do it with no problem!

Cheers!

I'm not familiar with the SIR systems (I'm more of a Samco M33 guy, medium speed, medium drag), but from the looks of it, the top half of the rails fasten to the flattop, and then you screw the bottom half of the rails to the top half.  Is this right?  So you don't have to remove the front sight, just take off the old handguards and bolt on the SIR, right?

How much are these?
Link Posted: 12/31/2003 6:05:39 AM EDT
Eswanson,

The SIR rail systems range from $360-$400.  You should be able to find great pricing on EE.

Here's some pics I took while installing my SIR, it should give you a good idea of what's involved.  The whole process only takes about ten minutes.

1. The ARMS 40a and SIR 50c broken down and ready for installation.

2 The ARM 40a is installed. Don't forget to use Loctite, I used the Loctite that came with the SIR.

3. The top half is mounted and to receiver and the crossbar rail is only tightened enough to securely hold it on the receiver.

4. The barrel nut yoke is placed under the delta ring and around the barrel nut and tighted down with four screws using the provided Loctite 222MS.  The barrel nut yoke is a major mount point and is a big key to the SIR's free float rigidness and durability.  After the barrel nut yoke is tightend down go back and Loctite the three nuts on the crossbar rail and tighten them down all the way.

5.Attach the rails to the lower handguard.

6.Slide the lower handguard on the SIR, latch it down with the spring loaded retention screws and tighten down all the spring loaded rail screws.

7. All done!

Thank you very much for the pics of the SIR installation.  I am expecting a #46C in the mail any day now, and the pics well help me get a good idea of what's to come.  Thanks again.
