With the PMAG craze and the standards of C Products & D&H magazines being unchallenged....I haven't heard much user info regarding these "immortal" 30 rounders from CMMG (SSAT).

At $24+ they lean on the expensive side, but I have to admit, they look good on paper. With the above mentioned competitors, there's not a lot of reason to be reinventing the wheel here, but the braided springs, the metal followers and the specs certainly LOOK good.

Does anyone have any experience with these? Any opinions? Curious as to what the Hivemind thinks about these.

I did the CMMG upgrade to my Taiwan T65 for a whole lot cheaper than those "Immortal" mags and will last just as long.

CDNN sells the T65 mags as "Asian Contract" for $7.99.

I took 6 Stainless Steel CProducts mags and added CMMG Springs and Followers to make my version of the perfect mag.  They wrk like they are glass inside and feed perfectly.

SS followers are an excellent, but old, idea. They should have been oem.

What kind of springs do they come with?

I have 6.

To date, they have remained immortal.  Not one of them has died or shown signs of aging.

i got one for free when CMMG made a mistake on one of my orders

it has been working great, but all of my other standard mags are working great too

i think it is a valid "improvement" over the standard design, but i am not sure how much extra real world performance they provide

Who makes the body?  D&H?  CP?  ??

And what is the mag body coating?  Dry film?  Marlube?  Teflon?

I think the springs are too expensive. USGI stainless springs are .34 cents - $1.00each depending on source. You can replace the USGI spring several times for the cost of a braided spring.

I like the idea of the followers but wonder about the steel follower wearing on the aluminum mag body.

I have 4.  They are D&H Teflon mag bodies.  The followers are great, feel really sturdy and indestructible. Only beef I have with them is they would only hold 29, so I followed CMMG's suggestion and cut off a coil.  They now hold 30(barely) but it is difficult (but doable with a good hard smack)  to seat on a closed bolt.  With a piece of the cut coil I did my own salt water experiment.  After a week or so submerged in salt water, there was no rust on the ceramic coated part but heavy rust on the area where the coil was clipped and a "test" area where I had scraped off the ceramic coating. Spring power seems exceptionally strong, so overall, I would say they will work as advertised for a looong time.  so +1 on my overall experience.

Interesting. Thanks for the review.

HK has been making g3 mags with steel followers an AL bodies for decades... take apart an aluminum G3 mag and you'll see a follower very similar to this one, only they are chromed not SS.

yep. I gotta big box of the aluminum G3 mag. I had hoped a US company would copy that German made 308 AR that uses G3 mags. The Cobb's a bit pricey for me.

Oh well they don't take up much space anyways.

I do believe the new fangled followers, mag pul and cmmg are better than GI. I installed stainless springs and cmmg SS followers in a few parked english mags. They worked out fine. Have the magpuls in aluminums.

Expect any mag creep with extra power springs like that against aluminum feed lips?
The cmmg spring, stainless follower and the C products SS body sounds good.

C products unchallenged?

threefathers,

How did you orient the spring in the SS mag? I had trouble getting mine in the designed way, but got it to go in upside down - didn't really like doing it that way though. While doing it I thought I remembered reading someone else did that. Thanks

If using standard mag springs they go in upside down.

I have been wondering about these mags my self but have held off on getting a few. But after the positive reviews I think all have to pic some up. If for any reason just to toss them onto the pile. Can't let the other mags get lonely.
