Can't wait to get mine.  I ordered one a few days ago that's set to arrive on Fri.

I was wondering, what is the difference between a "SOCOM" and the other one that wasn't labeled "SOCOM"?  I couldn't see any difference at all in the specs.

SOCOM's have a heavier barrel under the handguards as opposed to standard M4 profile which is light under handguards, I think.

what does CMMG put behind the A2?  is that just a full peel washer?  looks thick and a dull gray in color...

Silver solder? It's permenantly attached, I believe.

It would have to permanent- some use a solder which can be done with a bit of MAPP gas.

That big silver ring isn't silver solder, I'd bet on it.  It might be soldered on but that ring I'm talking about isn't seepage...   It's got to be some sort of washer.  I was just curious as to which type.

I've got a RRA lower that needs a upper.Looks like the upper and lower match pretty well.
Was the fit between them tight?
How does it run? Any problems at all?

I just got a CMMG upper myself.  The fit and finish are outstanding and the 200 round break-in ran flawlessly.  The gun shoots accurately and is put together very well.  At this point, I really can't see me ever buying from someone else again -- especially with all custom options they offer (you can get EXACTLY what you want).

Oh, and their customer service has to be the best in the industry - they were fantastic to deal with.

So... buy with confidence.

JosephR,

Yes, standard crush washers are black.

But, due to the alloy they are made from they do not lend themselves to conventional phosphating and come out either dull gray or silver appearing, depending on how it was prepared (blasted or not) prior to the barrel being phosphated (parkerized) after the flash suppressor is permanently attached and the weld blended into the suppressor.

Though it may appear "non-standard" it beats the other option of just touching up the welded/ground area with cold blue.

CMMG uppers are sweet! If you dont like heavy ass carbines dont get the SOCOM, the heavier contour was a lot more weight than I thought it would be.
