Just purchased a new Colt LE6920 M4 carbine. It has the Rodgers buttstock.
It has a 3 position buffer tube on it.
I'd like to swap the tube out for a six position and re-use the Rodgers buttstock.
The guy at the shop where I bought it tells me the tube is mil-spec and there are no six position mil-spec tubes out there.
He also tells me I can't use the factory buttstock on a commercial tube.
How do I tell the difference in the tubes?
Will a mil-spec buttstock work on a commercial tube or vice versa?
I don't really give a flip if it's mil-spec or commercial.

You actually have a 4 position tube. Fully collapsed is one, then three holes. PSA, BCM and other have a mil spec one with five holes

BCM Milspec Receiver Extension (Buffer Tube) 6 Position

Mil-Spec extension diameter is ~1.148"
Commercial extension diameter is ~1.168"

Mil spec will not work on commercial tube and vise versa.

The commercial buffer tube is angled at the back, mil spec is not.

Personally, I would stay with all mil spec parts.

The Rogers stock is supposed to fit on both mil and commercial receiver extensions. BCM makes a 6 position receiver extension.

I put this one from DSA on my 6920 Magpul for the same reasons, works great:

If you want a 6 position tube there are plenty of them on the market in both mil size as well as commercial.

My Milspec Colt CAR stock has 4 positions. I use 2 of them but no body armor in my future training. Basically I paid top dollar for a pre-ban lower but realized it was a waste. I have used a fixed a1 stock with body armor before and it was fine. I am going off topic...my bad.
