Headed out to the Como, MS range today today to bone up on my shooting skills for the Zombie shoot on Halloween. Taking the 601, my GAU-5A/A, Remington 870, and my Israeli police trade-in FEG Hipower. I'll have my friend George take some pics so you can put a face to my posts. My wife doen't shoot, and I don't have a pretty mistress, so George will have to do!

WONDERFUL! Had a great time. My buddy George brought his S&W M4gery, and I had the GAU-5A/A and 601 clone. First I shot the GAU. I mostly did 25 yard battle sight check, since it was windy as hell. am going back in a cople weeks to do 100 and 200 yards with it. (The long range guys were having fits with the erratic gusts!) I mainly wanted to do a fine tune i on the 1.25" below POA battle sight, and I had to spend most of my time on the pistol range shooting two pistols for magazine articles I am doing. The GAU was first, and I had to dial it in, two right anf one click back, but elevation was OK. Groups a little over an inch, which is not great at 100, even though it is a 16" barrel. The show pony was the 601 clone. Best group was 7/16" center to center, and average of 9/16" center to center. That should translate to about 2- 2.5 MOA. Not bad for is a late 60s vintage CMP C (though I put CMP B on target-senior moment). My retros outshot the M4gery, by the way!

I don't have pretty girls in the range pictures, just a bald old Irishman (me).

Me with my faux-GAU-5A/A:

I also shot my buddy's S&W M&P-15 M4gery. Oh my God! He took a perfectly delightful 6 pound carbine and made it a 10 pound rifle: rails, grips, bipod, light, laser, scope with a mini-EOTech on top. Ugh. It had a 9 pound lawyer trigger (which I am going to correct for him). I prefer any retro to it, and even prefer my M1 Carbine for CQB rather than the tacticool M4gery.

That 601 looks great! I wouldn't be surprised if you got a lot of questions about it.

Glad you had a great time. Think I'd almost rather shoot a M-1 carbine over a 9 lb AR carbine inside 100 yds any day. The 30 cal ammo is getting kinda pricey though. Think I still have a bunch packed away somewhere. Looks like you got the AR dialed in. What ammo are you using? It is amazing what 5 mph of wind differential can do to a 55gr 3100 fps bullet. Once I finish with the XM16E1 uppers I'm going back to shooting off a rest until that gets boring. If I want to see the real cute lady sheriff I could always bump fire my retro a couple of mags. Have had a blast shooting free hand with them, except for the snakes. Your 601 does look real nice. Not big on waffles but real big on waffle mags. I'm gonna assume you had Victor match the upper and lower. My magnifier says you need to paint or coat that buffer tube. I paid $40 from Apex shipped and the ring is black on mine also.

Haha! Yes, it is a DPMS tube that needs paint (My Rustoleum primer will do). Nope, the upper was from Lucious Clay and came that way, a near perfect match to the NDS lower. The colt tube is going on the 603 XM16E1 build I am doing with the upper I am getting from you!

The ammo was M193 IMI FMJ from Wideners. Very consistent and very accurate. They also have M855 IMI.

As for Carbine, WIdeners has Mag Tech Carbine ammo (very hot, 2000 fps, GI is 1970) soft point for $22/50. I have 500 rounds of RP 110 JSP and about 600 rounds of RP 110 FMJ stashed. Walmart here sells the RP 110 FMJ for about $26/50 all the time.
