Carhlr,
Where are you at in Wisconsin? Do you ever get to the Minneapolis/St.Paul metro area? If so give us a call, or find us at the next big gunshow in February and we would be happy to show you our short tactical stock, which is referred to as the Sully Stock. Our stock has just been recently made available for sale. It is solid urethane all the way through, not hollow. The solidness makes it extremely durable and offers better feel and balance. It is approximately 8-1/8" in length, as well as we added some under cutting to make it more user friendly. It has been a 2yr project but is finally done. I realize our pictures are not the best, but our webmaster is working on better resolution as we speak. If you check our website and click on the picture of the OD colored M4, it will take you to a picture of the sully stock compared to the A1 and A2. Stop by and take a look and form your own opinion.
On the barrel configuration, it almost comes down to personal preference. The M4 barrel was designed so soldiers can attach the M203 to it, as well as other accessories. I personally would opt for the heavier barrel, as I like the front end weight. My personal preference is a Tactical-16/Dissipator style due to the longer sight radius and full length hand guards. As far as the A3 brake, it is a good brake. You might check the DPMS website for other options as well, as there are many great brakes and comps available.
Just my $.02
