I recently got my hands on the new Bushnell Big D red dot. This is a new product, and nobody has done a torture test on it. It might be thrown down stairs, chucked in the air, dropped into water, and/or strapped onto the back of my tactical chihuahua; however, I'd like to have a humorous side to this test; so what are some of the extreme, non-traditional ideas you guys would like me to do to this thing? I plan on breaking it and want to have fun in the process.

Pass it through your body like a drug mule! View Quote |

Drop it in a mug of beer, then chug the beer and see if it still works.

Make Jello with it in the pan.....you know like Gramma does with the fruit!

Why the FUCK does a/their red dot sight have
|
|
1.Take it to paint store
2.Give kid behind the counter a fiver and a zip tie. 3.Instruct kid to zip tie it to paint shaker. 4. Return in 10 minutes. 5. See if the dang thing still works. |
|
So you purchased a $300 red dot just to have fun destroying it?
Anyway, if the point is to see how durable it is I think shock and moisture tests are the most relevant to real world use. Submerge in a cup of water overnight. My TRS-25 survived this fine. The sawzall is a good idea. Dropping it onto a 4x6 from 5 feet and then 10 feet would be next. Drop it onto concrete from 5 feet and then ten feet if it survives the 4x6. If it survives a ten foot drop onto concrete I'll say it is impressive. |

Read the Unscientific Magazine Test and adapt some of those ideas for an optic. Like using interesting cleaners.

The Lil P might be more practical for that lol. Big D ain't go nowhere near my stanker. I'm actually surprised how big and heavy this scope is. It's built like a tank. I didn't want to like it, but it's kind of grown on me. It has a weird greenish hue that I don't care for, though. View Quote |

For a serious side, you should strap it to a .308 AR, and see if it lasts. I have seen lesser chicom RDS not be able to take the pounding.

In theory, sounds logical, but what if goat's iron stomach digests and gives it laser beam eyes? Can't take that risk. View Quote I do like the paint shaker device test. No need beating the dog crap out of it. If it could be contained in a sealed plastic something with water, then inserted to the paint can and shaken, that'd be pretty interesting. |

View Quote OP, toss it in a portashitter. |

Turn on, freeze in a block of ice. (ziplock bag of water in a deep freezer). Leave for a few days. Then drop into pot of boiling water for a few hours. Then back into ice water. Extreme temperature swings.

Water submersion is lame. Submerge in beer.
Drop test is lame. Toss down the driveway, in memory of Napoleon_Tannerite. You can also lend it to my six year old son. I love him, but I'm convinced he could break a bowling ball with a pillow. |

How about a realistic test?
Put it on a rifle, zero it, and then set the rifle against a wall on a hard surface and tip it over 5 or 10 times and see if it retains zero. Put it in the back of a truck and haul ass up and down a gravel road and see if it retains zero. Leave it out in the rain for 5 hours and see if it stays dry inside. Dunk it for a few minutes and see if it stays dry inside. |
