Any one have the scout light?  Any opinions on it.  Should I get a dedicated weapon light like the M500 series?  Thanks

I took mine to Bagram (Afghanistan). It's small, light and doesnt feel like a lead weight after a few minutes in the ready position.  The only bad is that with the smaller size and weight, you loose lumens.  I quickly understood why everyone else had the 125 or more lumens on their weapons.  Good luck on your purchase.

I've got a regular old Scout with an M76 offset mount, and one with a KL1 LED bezel and the regular mount. I like the normal incandescent because of the increased output and throw. The M76 offset mount is a nice addition. It allows the user much more flexibility in mounting.

My "other" weaponlights are a Night-Ops Gladius, a SF M95LT17-XM06, and a SF M97LT-XM06. The 6 Volt SF has a P61 lamp, and pales in comarison to the Gladius in all performance areas. The only advantage is that it can use a LaRue throwlever mount. The big 9 Volt light uses the MN16, is heavy and bulky, but it is a beast when it comes to output.

There aren't many situations that would make me pick an M500A over a Scout and a quality railed handguard.

Unless you need the ability to switch between the LED and the incandescent with the IR filter (assuming the kit comes with the IR filter and incandescant head) just get an L4 and a mount.  It's basically the same light.  And both are based on the E2E.

It's a great light for indoors, a little lacking for outdoors work. If you use NV outdoors you could get away with it easy. My M900 weighs over 20 oz, my M962 weighs 11 oz, but the Scout light only weighs 4 oz.

The Scout light is a great light indeed, but just needs a little help. I build custom ones with LaRue Tactical mounts and LU60A heads (seen in pics below). For those folks that find the Scout a little too pricey, I am about to release my own version that will be much cheaper.

Grant,

What is lumen output and runtime with the LU60A head?  Does that LaRue mount have anymore offset?

The LU60A is the same as the LU60 except that the "A" version means that it comes with an adapter collar so it can attach to an "E" Series body such as the ScoutLight or E2e etc.

The LU60 features the same shock isolated bezel and P60 Lamp Assembly as the M95 Series WeaponLights and the handheld M2.

The P60 Lamp Assembly is used by many 6V models from the G2 & 6P handhelds through the vast array of 6V WeaponLights to the 6V BatonLights and ShieldLights.

The P60 is rated by SureFire at 65 lumens with a 60 minute runtime from two SF123A batteries.

You can also use the High Output Lamp Assembly P61 which is rated at 120 lumens with a 20 minute runtime.

The LU60A uses the 1.47" M2 s.i. bezel so it looks a bit awkward, we've also used the Z32 s.i. bezel to keep the sizedown for those who wanted to go that route.

I tried unscrewing the M2 bezel from the "A" adapter and trying to screw the Z32 bezel on to the "A" adapter. IIRC it didn't work. What am I missing?

Thanks!

So to fix this issue, I have had my own Scout bodies made and incorporated this part in so that you CAN use an M2 or Z32!

That sounds good, since I presume the Z32 is a lot lighter than the M2 bezel.

It should've worked, give it another try and make sure you have everything tight.

No go. But maybe what I have isn't a Z32. I unscrewed the bezel from my 628 fore-end. I am guessing that is not the equivalent of a Z32.

I am interested in a Scout light but I don't care for the price, the LED lamp or accessories included. I want something simple, like a Scout housing and mount with a contant/momentary clicky tail cap (no tape switch) an incandescent lamp and nothing else. Does SF make a combo like this at a better price? Or am I better off getting another E2D and a mount?

Calvin at BrightFlashlights can hook you up.

I might have an answer for you. I had Scout bodies made and you can use a SF Z61 click on tailcap, Z32 shock isolated bezel and the VLTOR E-Series mount. All for a price below the Scout or Defender for that matter. I also have them in a 9Volt version!

What is the weight of these lights?
Thanks.....Chad

Waiting eagerly... Did you add battery isolation to the body?

Grant,

As mentioned on another thread I think your Scout light bodies are great!

Just wondering, but since you are having these light bodies custom made have you thought about having an extension made that will convert a 6v to a 9v?

I feel this will make your system even more unique and versatile and give the end user more ability to configure the light to the mission at hand.  I would aslo thingk this might lower production costs because you will only need to make the small extension piece instead of 9v body.

mcgrubbs,

I can't tell from the picture but can you mount the Scout on the LT mound without using the offset adaptor or the extension adaptor?  I currently have a Scout with the thumb screws mounted at 6:00 on a LaRue 7.0 which covers most of my 7.5" barrel.  The Scout light ends at the same length as my Noveske KFH.  If I were to use the mount shown in your post with the extension it would put the light past the Krink.  I want to keep my light at the 6:00 position but don't want it to stick out too far.  Bottom line question is, can I use just the throw lever mount on a Scout without either of the two adaptors?

The bezel should be a Z32... got pics of what you have??

No pics, but I figured out a workable combination. The bezel from my 618 wouldn't work when attached it it to the scout. But the bezel from the 628 would. So I took the bezel from the 628 and put it on the Scout, then put the bezel from the 618 on the 628 and put the M2 bezel on the 618.

For some reason it's all good now!
