Quoted: It's a great light for indoors, a little lacking for outdoors work. If you use NV outdoors you could get away with it easy. My M900 weighs over 20 oz, my M962 weighs 11 oz, but the Scout light only weighs 4 oz.

The M600A which has the 5w KL4 LED head is great for indoors but only good for about 30-35yds. outdoors. The benefit to the KL4 is slightly longer runtime and the fact you have little risk of 'lamp' failure (LED's can fail under extreme circumstances).
If you want greater range then going with an incandascent is the way to go. What I would recommend is the M600B Scout light, it's essentially an E2D with the incorporated mount and both the clicker t/c & tapeswitch t/c assy. It will provide 60 lumen output for approx. 75 min. and give excellent close range flood but still push out to approx. 50-60 yds. The M600B is considerably less expensive than the 'A' model.
There are also other options for the Scouts:
The LU60A assy. like shown above which uses a P60 65 lumen lamp (but can be upgraded to the P61 120 lumen lamp). The LU60A uses the 1.47" M2 s.i. bezel so it looks a bit awkward, we've also used the Z32 s.i. bezel to keep the sizedown for those who wanted to go that route.
The M76 offset mount will replace the std. mount so you can customize the position you need.
And one of our favorite builds is to use the new KL1 LED heads, they won't have the close range flood like the KL4 but do offer more down range performance (40-50 yds.) The KL1 will also offer 3 hours of primary runtime followed by another 2.5 hrs of declining brightness.
Now with all that said, I can also easily advise mounting up an E2D, E2E or L4 using the Vltor mount. The tapeswitch t/c assemblies are available (but expensive) as well as the other accessories such as the LU60A and KL1 & KL4 heads.
For size comparison here are the M600A, M600B & M952XM -
M600A = 4.3oz
M600B = 4.2oz
M952XM = 10.2oz
