How many AR's have you built? While I'm no big DPMS or Olympic fan when it comes to a stripped upper they pretty much all work the same. I have no problem using a RRA upper on one of my builds. The biger question is are you buying an upper with the correct feed ramps for your barrel.
You list BCM, Colt, FN and Noveske barrels together. While all of those are quality barrels Noveske barrels are normally on a different level than BCM, Colt or FN. Each of those companies can produce great barrels but Colt and FN are generally focused on general purpose rifles and not the precision side. BCM does have some very nice offerings available. That said you really have to determine the goals you have for your rifle and reconcile it with your budget. If your goals are absolute precision I probably wouldn't use any of the brands you mentioned.
Very few people actually use Colt LPK's. They are expensive and there are many good options available for less money. I've used DPMS, RRA, CMMG, PSA, Daniel Defense and a few others. The only real issue I've encountered was a DPMS with a bad bolt hold open.

I picked up a pair of stripped Barrett lowers to do a Father/Son build project of our own ARs. I've assembled a couple of Bushmaster kits over the years,,, but this will be our first build from stripped lower on up.
We both are leaning towards 3-gun idea. But due to his high school sports I'm sure this will be more of a fun project that is looking to build sub moa range guns.
Can anyone suggest their favorite items below and why?
Lower parts kits? (everyone from Rguns to Wilson sells them. Why would you lean one way or the other)
Upper reciever? ( I was told there were only three true Upper manufactures, which are your favorites and why)
Triggers? (I see the drop in's from Wilson and others, but hear good things about RRA)
Barrels?
Bottom line, if you wanted to build a quality pair of guns that will be passed to the grand kids, what & why?
Thanks
LPK - Colt. They make the best, all the others are copies.
Triggers - Geissele. Nuff said.
Barrels - BCM, Colt, FN, Noveske.
Upper Receiver - Several companies forge them. What you want is a company that machines them to the spec and does a quality job. I always stick to the big names. I'm sure someone will be along to say their dpms, rra, olympic, etc. is just as good as but there's no such thing. How many AR's have you built? I've built many ARs and NEVER once have I ever used any dpms, rra or other junk, hobby gun parts, I use only the best. My lowers have Geissele SSA and the rest of the lower parts are Colt. I'm sorry you feel the need to feel butthurt about my post. If you want to use junk by all means do so as for me I build my carbines to run long after your hobby guns have failed.
