lock the bolt back and place the buttstock on the ground. put your cleaning rod in the muzzle and let it drop. Let gravity do the work for you. You might have to do this a few times...quite a few times if you also have a dowel jammed in there. Don't beat on the rod with anything because you don't want to score the chamber when it finally breaks loose. I wouldn't recommend using any lubricant on this one because the dowel will soak it up and expand.
+1 on the chrome chamber, and don't use any lacquerred ammo anymore |

well gravity has yet to work..... this case is really jammed i think.... although the dowel seems to be giving me the most trouble... any other ideas... i have removed the barrel from the upper so i can see the case has not move at all but i did get some saw dust.... maybe i should get in on the group buy? lol

it is a fired case.... i would not be messing around with this if it were not... also it is fully seated into the chamber

If you have the barrel off the upper, get a stuck case remover like reloaders use to get stuck cases out of sizeing dies. Or simply drill and tap the primer hole to 1/4 x 20 thread. then use a 1/4x20 bolt and a washer or piece of flatbar to pull the case. I've done this on dies with stuck cases.

Will the barrel fit in your oven? If so, put it in the oven at the lowest temp (125-150F) and let it dry out the wood for a few hours. You could even do it manually if you turn the oven on, wait for the temp to reach about 125-130F, then turn the oven off. Repeat procedure every 30 min for 4-6 hours. Use an oven thermometer to measure temp.
It should shrink enough for it to drop out, as long as you didn't mushroom the ends too badly. |

grind down a ball puller for a 45 cal muzzleloader... put it on your bench rod and try to pull the dowel? Maybe taping up a CO2 ball ejector and firing down the bore, see if it'll eject the dowel and casing? If those don't work, my next round of ideas starts to carry increasing potential for damaging your barrel...

You might want to consider this, get a muzzle protector (one that will fit inside the FH or brake or one that will fit on the barrel end if there is no brake or FH) then with the shortest steel piece of cleaning rod and a mallet or hammer, slowly try to tap it thru enough to where you can hold the dowel with the vice and then try to slowly pull while you twist off the barrel. twist the way the grooves in the barrel will help you out.

You'd be surprised how some here take their's off. Clamp the dowel in the vise and tap the front of the FSB with a nomar. |

You can try and freeze the upper, which will make the metal contract, thus causing the interior diameter to increase, however it will cause a waterlogged dowel to expand, possibly a catch 22! My personal choice would be a remove the barrel, clamp it in a vise and use a plastic coated (metal one piece) cleaning rod with a 24oz dead blow mallet. The drill bit is an idea, but I would definately only use that as a last resort! Hardened Carbide steel in a Chrome Moly barrel would be a bad idea!
If anything that you should have learned from this experience, it should be don't use a dowel to try and remove a FTE! Sorry it happened that sucks! Wolf ammo is crap, I have used it and once you try NATO M855 or XM193 you really realize why quality ammo is worth the money. Just my $.02 |
