Still waiting for the delivery of my first AR and was just wondering about the ejection port. Do you open it before firing or does it open automatically and stay open after the first casing is ejected?

Closed or open it does not matter. Once your first round is fired the ejcetion port cover (if it is closed) will be opend from the shell case. The cover does not have much of a purpose other tahn to keep things out of the chamber.

The dust cover, if closed, will automatically snap open when the bolt retracts.
The spring will keep it open until you manually close it again.

will be opend from the shell case.

Not correct. The notch in the bolt will push it open.

It will open automatically when the bolt carrier starts to travel to the rear.  It will stay open until you manually close it.

ETA:  got beat on that one!

Thank you for the info. So many things to learn and so little time.
