Well I ended up with a detent that has a spring that is too short for the bolt release. It went in and now the detent and spring will not come back out.

Any suggestions?

What type of magnet?
The ones I have don't seem to be large enough.

May have to carefully drill it out and get a new detent.  Hold on to the new one with needle nose pliers to make sure it will slip in.

I had a "specialist" get it out for me- it was a burr inside the hole holding it in.

I have been spoiled by not ever having any issues with the finish of the receiver in fitting parts.

Lesson learned- always check the holes and finger a drill bit to be sure.
