Apparently the other topic I was participating in was locked while I was gone, so I'll start over I suppose.

I want to purchase a lower, but I'm running into a truck load of information to digest not to mention a whole lot of "out of stock" vendor pages. So what I would like to know is what would be a fair price these days for a stripped lower? $200 seems steep to me, and I've seen people on here aghast at $150, so would someone please give me a range, so I know if I'm getting a deal or I'm getting ripped off? I'm trying to do this without attracting the anger of the significant other so I want to do it right and not waste money (nagging gets so old, you know? :D )

If any of you veterans have sagely advice for a first time builder, I'm really good at keeping my ears open and mouth shut, and I'm full of questions. :)

Oh, I guess I should add that I plan on using this for shooting service rifle target matches. I guess also for personal defense should society break down and/or zombie breakout, should any of that make a difference.

200 is steep for a stripped lower.  Keep an eye on the EE, some really good deals there.

Less than a year ago, someone online had them for about $85. Not a first-tier manufacturer of course, but I'm just sayin'... this is one of the things we live with when the socialists grab power.

Local larger store selling dpms for 199.00, 2 or more for 189.00.  4 months ago same store 130.00.  I think this is high but there are people willing to pay.

Everyone here seems to love Essential arms lowers right now because there's hardly any wait and you can buy them directly for $100-110. No personal experience myself but I'm sure

someone else will chime in shortly. Other than that the best price I've seen recently was $165 for RRA lowers on PK's website a few days ago. Good luck!

Is there really a difference in quality? I mean, I can't see there being that much difference in the forging process used by say Colt than Essential Arms but I am extremely new to this and I'm sure one of you will smack me on the head for improper thinking. As far as your link goes, is this worth the money or will I be cursing my purchase when I start building and have to go find something better? Your opinion means quite a bit, since you actually can have one whereas I'm in uncharted territory heh.

Essential Arms is good to go quality wise. They may not be one of the top producers,
but they make a great lower.

What about Superior Arms, does anyone know anything about them?

In all reality, a stripped lower is a stripped lower. Sure, there are some that are better than others, but most are the same. There are only a handful of manufacturers that turn them out. Just be sure to fill it with quality parts.

With the economy the way it is, the people in the industry I have talked to say prices are here to stay. Why drop them? People are paying the higher price. Look at gas, Oil is cheap, gas is not...get used to it..

Agree 100% I can not for the life of me understand why I see all these people paying $200 and up for lowers when EA has them in stock right now for $110. If you must have a S&W, Noveske, Colt, LMT, or BM great, but there are many, many members here who will vouch for the quality of EA's product.

I just bought a Superior Arms lower last month here at a local show, 130.00, went together slick as silk and runs great.

I'll do you one better.  My local shop is selling Spike's stripped lowers for $300 before DROS (DROS is the $25 background check for us cali folks) and tax.  They then are charging $125 for DPMS LPK's.  REDICULOUS!

Apparently, they ordered 30 of them and the day before the 30 are set to arrive, only 9 are still unsold.  I live in a small town and am suprised people are willing to pay this.  It's cheaper to do a FFL transfer through them for the same lowers, by almost $100... WTF!!!

Some of us love POF's billet lowers.... and at $310/ea stripped... we pay for it...  Damn Ambi release ;)  hahaha

But I'd easily pay $200 for a stripped Sun-devil... =)

Can you explain how exactly they are better? I mean it's a machined piece of metal with no moving parts in it yet so I don't understand how one can be better than the other. Or are there factors involved I'm not aware of, which is probably the case.
