How hard would it be to get someone to build a lower already with a magwell designed for a Sten mag? Instead of converting the magwell adapters just have the lower "cut" correctly from the start. Do you think Tony at TROMIX could be "tricked" into doing this? I know he used to make his own lowers before his last "vacation"

z71man23 was talking about making one on a wire EDM machine. He said he's made a few from 0% lowers. Check it out here

Good idea. How about dedicated .45 lowers too?

What constitutes an 80% lower? 80% of the actual material, with only 20% left to be removed, or is it by the amount(number) holes/cuts made? If it is by material could we not get someone to build a lower with everything except the magwell cut? I would think you would have at least 20% of the material coming out of the magwell on an AR. Who knows how the 80% works? [beer]

William at www.tanneryshop.com sells these and knows all the legality questions about them. What I do know is that there are specific areas that count or do not. For example, the buffer tube area. Threading that is a no-no in any case (doing so makes a complete lower receiver). Also some question in the fire control area. The magwell is already opened up in an 80% receiver. Also, the magwell is a bit irrelevant, because an AR with no magwell will still fire. Hope that helps, and contact William for other answers.
