I went out to the range today and did some testing. I know I'll get chewed up by the ammo lords, with all thier Dr. Fackler terminal ballistics wizardry, but still I'm impressed.
Here is my data and pics:
Gun: 7.5" RSRH
Bullet: 275gr Speer Gold Dot HP
Muzzle Velocity: 1450 FPS
Test Medium: 3, 1 gallon water jugs
Distance to Target: 60 yds
Temperature: Ammo at 65 degrees, ambient 33 degrees
Elevation: 830 ft
Recovered weight: 275gr
Expanded diameter: .930
Penetration: 18 inches
These bullets opened up right down to the canelure in textbook fashion. This was at 60yds remind you!
I've read where water expands a bullet a little more than gelatin by 1.5 times. But the bullets I have recovered from game look like the ones I recovered from water jugs in the past. I'm pretty happy with the performance of these bullets. I'd keep the application of these to medium sized game like deer or the occasional armed and hostile tresspasser.
