how a chance to buy some SA 5.56  which is older lot #, 626A83   and lot 634A83.  Can buy 3-300rds packs for $40 each.  Is this ammo worth $,  I would plan to use as "plinking" ammo at the range and shot it up over next few month.  Reliable source says it was stored indoors?   what do you think? should I spring for the $120 bucks?

Not a chance in hell. What you should do, however, is give me the guys name so I can buy it.

In other words, yep, buy it at that price in a heartbeat. Have fun and shoot straight!

$40 per battle pack sounds good to me. One dealer was selling them for $50 at a show here in CT a few weeks ago. SA is about the only .308 ammo I've bought lately for my AR-10. And IMO the 5.56 SA is "almost" as good as the Q3131a or XM193, which I use exclusively in my M4, and my Professional Ord. Carbon 15. BTW I have a couple packs of lot #662A83 SA 5.56 myself.

$0.13 per round is pretty good.

I used to buy it at $0.11, but those days are gone.

I love that south african stuff. To bad the days of getting it dirt cheap are long gone. I'd be all over that deal you have there theprofessor[;)]

I haven't shot any M1A2 that I recall (mostly I've shot the M1A3 and some M1A4).

LtC Santose reports M1A2 chronos just below M193 spec.  Very good ammo for plinking.

Thanks for the details. I will buy the ammo on my way home from work, the guy is holding it for me.

I would like to get some of that ammo. If you would let me know where to call.
I have 900 rounds now, lot # 667A83. It really shoots out well.

Thanks

I tested M1A2 in 2001.  It's the least desirable of the SA 193 Balls.  But not by much.

M1A2 velocity meets M193 spec (3225 vs 3250 at 15 feet) but the SD was 55fps, not the 40 as required.  If I indicated earlier that it was "slow" I apologise, I've got the data on the other screen right now.  Note that M193 velocity spec is measured at 15 feet (5 yards) while M855 is measured at 78 feet (25 meters).  It's easy to confuse the two ranges.

While M1A2 doesn't meet strice M193 spec I'd not hesitate to fill my duty magazines with it.

The SD tightened up eith M1A3 and M1A4 which were 36 and 20 respectively.

A cursory investigation indicates the only difference between these cartridges is their year of production and their SD widens as they get older.

if anyone wants some of this ammo, and lives in Wis. I have about 1200 rds that I could part with if the price is right.  Let me know.
