As I look at the place on my ACOG where the fiber optics go into the housing it apears that it is wet in that area. If you look at the end of the fiber optics neer the objective end it apears to be getting a opaque color for about 4mm.

I know there was forum on this awhile back but I can not find it. Can any one help a brother out, what is this mystery goooo.

There was one case (Kisara?) where the goo affects the scope, if the leak occurs near the base of the fiber optic tube and the goo leaks back into the reticle, it will stop that portion of the reticle from illuminating.

Don't remember the specifics but the picture showed a donut that was partially illuminated where it looked like a "U".

Kisara's TA11 tube was leaking a little from the side of the elevation adjustment knob, but I believe they're unrelated. Mine was doing a bit of leaking there too, never affected the reticle any. Many people have leaking and cracking fiber optic tubes, so far Kisara's was the only one that had the cracked/dimmed reticle.

I do believe if my thousand dollar optic was "leaking goo," I'd be a might upset. How common is this problem?

No shit!

Just how common is this?
I am saving to buy a TA31F, but I will reconsider
if the damned things are notorious for leaking goo.

I want a top of the line, rugged, and reliable gunsite......not the optical
equivalent of a Stretch Armstrong toy.

say NAG, maybe you should bold the part that states the leaking gel does not affect its performance

But if ya have to base on your buying decision on it, then more ACOGs for the rest of us

OK if more than one of us relatively few candy ass hobby shooters has had TA31's with "leaking goo," and there is speculation as to whether it affects the reticle or not, this does not inspire confidence in this THOUSAND DOLLAR OPTIC!! For that kind of jack, one would hope to expect that it be "goo leakproof."

I would personally go ballistic if my TA "leaked" anything, short of right after dropping it 10 feet on concrete or leaving it in 250 degree heat for a half an hour.

I have a TA01NSN and love it, but to spend that kind of dough, you just have certain expectations of design, construction, quality control, and toughness.

If the leaking gel does not effect performance, then that means it is not necessary.
If it is not necessary, then why in the hell is it in there?

Inquiring minds want to know.

Sounds like a chink in the mighty ACOG's armour. For a $1K optic the goo leaking issue should be fixed.

Seeing as how this is the FIRST time I have EVER heard of any "leaking" out of an ACOG, I am not worried the least for my ACOG.

If I have a problem, I'll just send it back to them. They'll fix it noprob I understand.

Sorry but I have to say this... because when I read your post my gutter mind kicked in to overdrive...

Dear Penthouse Forum...

I never thought this would happen to me, but, I had to tell someone about this. I'd been seeing pictures, and hearing everyone talk about this Advanced Combat Optical Girl. And wouldn't you know it, I all of a sudden found myself face to face with one. Well the next thing you know, my good old fiber optic is making quick work of the ACOG's housing, so much so that the housing's now appears all wet by the objective, and there's a strangely opaque film covering it.

Will I ever be able to recover from this experience, or am I hooked?

1. ACOG's are SWEET, but NOT an effective replacement for the Playboy Centerfold. Please don't treat them the same!

Had an ACOG since 2002... been using them longer than that... multiple cracks/scuffs on the fiber optic tube and no gel leakage yet. It has happened and has been reported here; but I think the odds are still pretty small.

If I added up all the reports I've read here, there were maybe 5 reporting goo leakage. Five out of well over 10,000 BAC ACOGs produced (and that is conservative) isn't exactly a major issue by my standards.

My bad... guess the original aar from Kisara got jumbled in my head.

I just got my TA31F today and it has a "wet spot".

Optic looks awesome though!

Timeless' Do you mean you have a "Wet spot" or the ACOG has a "Wet spot" after receiving it today?
