Or are the FF tubes nowadays so similar in features that it's pretty much a moot point? How would you rank the top 3 rails systems and why? I need to get off my ass and get one soon!

Troy-easy to install and cheaper
Larue-Good quality and warranty
Daniel Defense-Lite rail is very light and well made but $$$

Larue is the best that I have looked at...... and I looked at a whole lot of rails in person before I spent my money..... that with the fact that I love the company, my decision was easy.

none of the others (besides sws) were even close to the larue in percieved quality.

....... YMMV

besides a CASV or RASII I can't think of another rail that actually locks like the LaRue does with the included locking tab and screw that lock the rail in place to the upper.

I guess Larue is still the front runner then!

Love my LaRue!

KAC then, KAC now

I've tried Larue, DD (not the lite), YHM, ARMS, Troy, KAC, POF and PRI (I'm sure I'm forgetting a few others). Larue is my favorite. I would group the rest (except for YHM) as second. While Troy and ARMS are easier to install, I'd go through the extra trouble of removing the FSB for the Larue. Here's why:
Great finish
Locking mechanism
More narrow than most - I don't like the oval feel of DD

I've been accused of being a LaRue whore.

I prefer Troy but whatever floats your boat.

I love my Larue 7.0. great stuff.
Link Posted: 8/2/2007 2:33:11 PM EDT
Yeah I would say Larue is easily #1...followed by Daniel Defense.

Cool. Thanks guys. I think I'll be getting the Larue 9.0 for my 14.5 inch M4. Unfortunately, I'll have to find someone to machine off the permanent phantom so I can take off the FSB and install the qd YHM phantom suppressor.

i have a 14.5 with perm FH... so no removing FSB, thus no larue without removing bbl (ain't gonna happen) so, what is choice B for FF but no FSB removal?

No new KAC for me, even though I do have a MRE version of the URX on order, if Wes ever gets it. I still like the "old" FF RAS, on some things I just refuse to follow the crowd and do the in thing

LaRue makes great mounts and their handguard is pretty nice too, for the time being I'm sticking to KAC and DD, I'm a loyal customer

If I need it and larue makes it I own it.

Except for SOCOM. They chose the DD Lite.

Troy

+1 hands down easiest to install and Ive never had one rotate on me.

KAC, DD, ARMS or Vltor in my book.....not a big fan of LaRue

CASV-EL or RASII

I think they are both top notch. Asidse from the LaRue with it's locking system that engages the upper I don't think there is anything as solid as the VLTOR or KAC RASliII.

I almost forgot the ARMS line of FF rails but damn if they don't seem heavy to me. The more I mess with the CASV the more I like it.

Now I'm rambling.

I have two rifles with LaRue rails, a 7 inch and a 10 inch. I also have a 9 inch rail for a future project.

I have one rifle with a 10" Troy rail on it. I like the smaller profile of the LaRue, it feels better with rail covers on it, smaller in diameter than either the Troy or DD. I have a vertical grip on my Troy gun so the diameter is not an issue.

I had a 9" DD lite rail for a short wile, the machining quality was much lower than either the Troy or LaRue. Also my Tango Down vertical grip was rock solid on the Troy and LaRue rails but wobbled a lot on the DD rail.

Which active duty units are using Larue handguards? Or is it just individuals using self-bought ones?

Everything else.

Daniel Defense 7.0 and 12.0 FSP M4 rails

Larue for SPRs with low-pro gas block. I like the Troy for pinned A2s or any gas block that would not allow easy removal of the tube for cleaning. I almost ordered a Daniels(not the Lite) but I dont think it has a anti-tilt devise between the barrel nut and the upper. A FVG on this handgaurd would make a good and very expensive Barrel wrench. The Lite model does but its $100 more than the Larue.

75th Inf is supposed to use them. It's been awhile since I've had first hand knowledge tho.
