So here she is so far, Im getting extremely excited, as its almost complete.

Heres the lowdown so far, Im running a;

Bushmaster Lower
CMT Upper (Standard FeedRamps)
Denny's 16" SS 1/7 WOA RECON, Wylde Chambered Barrel
CMT Headspaced Bolt
Magpul M93B OD Green/Black, built specifically for Color Match
Larue 9" Free Float
Magpul MIAD, OD Green/Black
Vortex FH

This is the debate I cannot come to a conclusion on....Should I Norrell the Barrel OD Green or leave it Matte SS? Im also debating whether to go with a PRI Flipup front sight or LT Low Profile.

What do you guys think?

New Pics!:

Update- I have decided to Leave the Barrel SS for now, Ill probably just wrap it in OD Green Ghillie. And I think im going to go with a Larue Low Profile Gas Block since a Leupold Mark 4 is going to be permanently mounted.

That looks like it's gonna be sweet.

Personally, I'd be leaning toward leaving that barrel matte SS.

I've had great luck with all my CMT parts I put on my mid-length.  A Wylde chamber would be something neat to look into as well.  Hope it works out well for you!

Good looking parts!!

I'd go green on the barrel, the 2 tone OD green / black theme would play out all the way to the flash suppressor.

great looking build to this point. I would paint the barrel black

Nice components!

I wish I had this kind of info available to me back in the '80s when I first bought my first AR!!!

I've got a couple that I painted the barrel to match and a couple I left silver.

I'm like the Lord. I love them all.

For my last build I used a YHM flip down sight/gas block.  It looks and works great.  The sights that you mount on top of a gas block with a rail look klunky to me.

Nice build.

How do you like that Magpul MIAD Modular Full Grip?
Link Posted: 1/2/2006 4:44:23 PM EDT
[#18]
Its a Magpul MIAD. By far thee most comfortable grip. They have interchangable Front and back straps for different sized hands, and various core inserts to stash supplies.

Looks first class so far. I love middy's and that one is shaping up to be sweet!

Since you asked   Yes, Moly Resin the barrel. Either OD or SOCOM black. Just my opinion but non-painted SS barrels on ARs look ghey.

For the front, I personally would have have gotten the 12.0 LaRue rail with the LaRue low profile gas block and Troy flip up front sight. Seeing that you already have the 9.0 rail, I would send your barrel to ADCO and have them install a GG&G pined flip up front\gas block. Actually even if I did the LaRue (or other) lo pro gas block, I would see if ADCO could pin it. I know a lot of people use gas blocks that are held on with set screws (or clamped on) but I just don't trust that.

Just my $.02

Great minds must think alike, your build is almost identical to the one i'm doing.  I plan on leaving my barrel stainless. The Magpul stuff I ordered is Coyote.

I'd be inclined to go with the PRI front sight given the choices you offer.  The 9' LT does not cover the gas block and I find a fully exposed gas block to look a little to 'race gun' for my tastes.  I'm leaning towards the YHM folding front sight w/ bayont lug for mine. I like the PRI more but am having a hard time motivating myself to spend an extra $100 on a sight I'll seldom ever use. Of course thats a poor argument since I paid $225 for a collapsing stock I'll almost never collapse. h

Nice, Nice, Nice.

I think it's the smart choice.  I mean honestly, if you end up NOT liking it... you can EASILY paint over it while it's on the gun.  A little more work vise versa.

Remember now, you HAVE to post pics when you are done!!

Sweet - what does it weigh w/ Mag and barrel?  Have you looked at Duracoat designs and colors
Link Posted: 1/3/2006 10:57:53 AM EDT
[#24]
I havent weighed it yet. Thats part of why I went with a LT 9" Instead of 12"....to Keep down on weight. I have a couple of bottles of Norrells in the frig, I think Im going to toss on the barrel SS first and see how I like it. If not Ill take it off and Spray it down.

Side question: How do you think the Bushmaster Carbine Spring and Buffers work in a Midlength? I dont even know what weight they use for their buffers but I have a couple sitting around.
Link Posted: 1/3/2006 1:03:37 PM EDT
[#25]
I am doing almost the same build w/ Bush lower, RRA - EOP upper, Yankee Hill 9" and ACE Ultra Lt Stock- trying to keep it under 7 lbs. Gonna be walking gun for hogs!

Good point on the spring/buff... don't know, will have to shoot to see what the cycle rate is.

For weight savings, you would have been better off with a DD rail. The LaRue 9.0 rail weighs the same as a DD 12.0 rail.

A standard carbine weight buffer will work fine but a heavier buffer will be a nice upgrade. The heavier the buffer, the smoother it will seem

Paint it black, anything but as is. Good looking rig, barrel clashes. Please tell me. What are the short and long measurements for the length of pull?
Link Posted: 1/3/2006 6:59:29 PM EDT
[#28]
If you are talking about the magpul:

Fully collapsed, it's about .25" longer than the M-4 closed (10.04" LOP). When fully extended, it's about .5 longer than an A2 stock (13.98" LOP).

leave it SS.

Magpul custom made that stock to color match their MIAD??
Link Posted: 1/4/2006 8:16:38 PM EDT
[#33]
No, well it does match the MIAD but the stock was assembled with a Black Buffer Tube, OD Green Buttstock and Black Locking Trigger to go with my black/green scheme. Otherwise they just come in an all OD green config. Magpul is an outstanding company!

Oh, I see.  They let you mix and match tbe parts.  I wonder if they know what sort of can of worms they might have opened.  Every kid on the block is going to want to do that.

Denny,

Sounds good to me, Ill call ya friday. I think im in agreement, the bbl needs OD green. Im going to have to sandblast it a bit and get some norrells on it.
