What sling for a XM177E2 & a 605?

I have seen coctailer's beautiful 605 with the seat belt sling, is that a correct sling or just one he may have liked?

What about a 602 & very early 604, green cotton sling like the 601 but with the tri-buckle?

Thanks

I'm in the same boat (Looking foe a sling set up for my faux Colt Commando with metal CAR stock) but please no IDF style recomendations ...

The standard sling for the XM177 was the M1 sling, the nylon m1 slings started showing up 68 or so, after that either, also a secondary sling listed in manual is the BAR web sling, basically the same as the M1 but longer, the slings for the 605 would have been the ones in service at the time you want your rifle depict, same as above, the 601 type sling would be correct also as it appears these were just thrown into Army supply once received & were treated basically as M1 slings which is why they show up from time to time in batches of surplus slings.

Carried a 604 in '77 and it had a nylon M1 sling as issue. Great sling in it's day. A somewhat slack hasty sling gives great stability. Learn to use it a bit slacker than on a heavy barrel bolt action, and you won't pull the barrel. Pulling too tight will do just that, pull your shots.

I use an M1 Carbine Sling. But ya the Nylon M1 sling is good to go. Look through the retro picture forums and the slings are almost all M1s. Some Paracord and Surgical tubing also.

Then there are also the field expedient slings.

I made an sling out of an M3 grease gun sling and the adjustable part of an ALICE pack shoulder strap.  Don't know how authentic it is for a 629 clone, but I like it.

Thanks, but I am looking for what would be issued with these rifles straight off the production line, like when you bought it new.

I put the expedient sling on mine because that's how it was commonly used, regardless of how it was issued.

From the reading here and looking at all the real deal pics I gather that slings were haphazardly issued; but since there's no specific carbine sling then I suspect it's the same sling as issued for the rifle of the same time frame.
