So is the sling mount on the front sight base held on by a pin? I want to remove mine but don't want to just start hammering on it with a punch. Thanks.

I took a dremmel to the Mushroomed part of the rivit and then with almost no force pushed the rivit out.
It took me longer to round up the tools than to do it

Yep a 1/16" punch in the dimpled portion.  A good sharp whack from a hammer and it will drive the rivet out, and the sling swivel will drop when you pull out the punch.

I've removed a couple using a 3/16" drill, very lightly to thin the rivet, then a 1/8" punch to drive it out.  Go easy with the drill or you will start cutting the FSB material.
