Your use of the term "slabside", and "A1" in the same sentence is contradictory. Slab side uppers were used on the first Air Force contract M16s. When the Army adopted the rifle, they insisted that the user have the ability to close the bolt on a partially chambered round. Thus came the forward assist, and the designation "A1".
Last I heard, SARCO have some M16 slabside uppers, so you might try them. Or keep an eye on the EE section of this site. Thet show up there periodically. Note though, that a lot of the slab side uppers in the civilian market are Colt SP1 and SP2 pieces; and the front hole is larger than the current 1/4 inch. If you do find one of these (and they do tend to be in better condition than a lot of the milsurp M16 pieces), you can gat an adapter sleeve that reduces the hole to 1/4 inch from DPMS for a couple of bucks.
