Hello,

I'm really on the fence of which flash suppressor to buy for 9-14.  I think I prefer the more mil-spec look of the Phantom, but the attitude of the Vortex is growing on me.  Since I'll have to pin this on my 14.5" barrel, I'd like to see a handfull of 'em installed.  Can someone throw me a pic or fifty?

Thanks,
BoB

Go with the phantom its closed on the front and wont hang up on stuff like the vortex.Personally I wish they would just make barrels 15" so a regular birdcage could be permanently attached.

Or go with the vortex, unless you plan on running around a jungle :-)

I got one, and I love it.  It looks very mean, and works very well.  Best I've seen...or rather, not seen.

Or you live in the country and not the city.

Here's a view of a Phantom you don't see very often.

I'm just trying to think of stuff that is dense enough for anything to really get caught in the flash hider.

I honestly don't think it would pose a problem.  Heavy, thick jungle, perhaps.

But since most of us don't go out in jungles, and a majority of our shooting is done at a range or somewhat open area, I'd go with the vortex.

I don't know of too many situations where I would be running into trees with my M4 pointed straight ahead of me

Top - Vortex, middle - Phantom, bottom - A2.

Here's one with a straight fluted Vortex:

Are you really saying the Phantom doesn't suppress flash? I never had the opportunity to compare the two side by side but everything I have read has indicated the phantom does an excellent job. Maybe not 99% like the Vortex but around 90-95%.

Do you have a different opinion or were you just joking?

Here are some of mine. All of MY rifles have Votex flash hiders. My issued work gun has a Phantom. I like both but fell in love with the Votex.

This is a Colt 16 inch Light Weight barrel that KKF cut down to 14.5 and installed the Votex.

This is my work rifle with a Phantom.

Not the best pics but maybe it will help.

now those are some nice rifles. amazing how just cutting off that extra inch or two off the barrel and bringing it down to the minimum 16"/16.5" really makes the M4gery look so much sweeter and more evil. man I wish Kurt wasn't so backed up, I'm dying to send in my colt barrel to have it done.

Thanks for the pics everyone.  This one sealed the deal for me.  I'll go with the new version (no bottom slot) of the old skool Phantom.

Thanks all!

The SE Vortex actually does something ( like eliminate 99% of muzzle flash) where as the Phantom just looks pretty! hr

Typical sales oriented bullshit!  Why is it that whatever you peddle is a gold brick but everything else is shit?  $50 for a flash hider is ridiculous, I'm sure it may have its place for certain special ops gear but Joe Average ain't toting it.

And to say the Phantom just looks pretty is the biggest pile of all, everyone knows that the Phantom has always been a comparable choice to the Vortex.  Muzzle flash reduction has been stated at as least 95-97% but the truth of the matter depends upon ammo & barrel length.

how do you know if you have a realphantom or just a mock  one?

sorta like the fake A2 flash hiders that are muzzle breaks

Sharpshot:

Not to hijack the thread, but there are other competent folks out there who can cut a barrel for ya besides KKF.

These are two of my faves; either one will hook you up right!
