It's been evolving constantly over the last couple of years.  Its FINALLY where I want it.  I was pretty well settled when I mounted an ARMS 38EX Mod L rail that bolted to the RAS.  The Aimpoint sat in an 22M68 on top and had great co-witnessing.  Once the Surefire got added, it was HEAVY.  So after talking with some VERY knowledgable people, I settled on the parts to lighten and simplify it a bit.

I know Im going to get flak for having the mount further back, but it works for me.  MY vision at that distance doesnt see the inside of the tube at all, and since I shoot both eyes open Im not losing field of view.  It balances the gun better for me mounted back a bit.

So here it is (my photography sucks):

Pre-ban Eagle Arms lower, Bushmaster M4 14.5 upper.
Vltor stock on a Colt buffer tube (packed with Aimpoint and Surefire batteries)
ARMS 40 BUIS
KAC forward offset mount
Aimpoint ML2
Knights RAS forearm and verticle grip
Surefire M962 w/ARMS throw lever mount and opaque cover(I replaced the tape switch with a pressure switch nipple from and old 6P - mo simple,mo betta)
RRA two stage trigger
PRI tac-latch
GG&G single point sling adaptor
Cen-dex Spring Sling mounted to work single point (still deciding on this...it IS comfortable)

Nice set up Lumpy

How is the RRA trigger holding up for you? I'm curious because I was thinking about putting one into my AR-15's lower.

By the way, what do you use the Surefire for?

Lumpy, Looks great! Right on about the weight, once you start bolting crap on the front, you need to head back to the gym!

I'm waiting on the click on tail switch for my 962, then mine will be done. I have the SIR, M900a, and 962 on the right side. I used a GG&G offset light bracket to drop the 962 down so I could used my thumb, all switches easily in reach. I need to hit Pep Boys now for a dimmer switch!

I found out that with the drop down plate, you can only use the standard bezel with the light, if you want the turbohead, you couldn't. And the standard just clears.

Themao,

The trigger is GREAT.  I was leery of it on a serious use gun, but Ive got about 500 rounds through it without a hitch.  It really tightened my close range hammers.

The light is for seeing miscreants in the big ass sections of desert that surround my town.

Mark,

I have a thing for balance in a rifle.  It does so much for getting on target, not to mention carrying around.  I dont mind an 8lb rifle, but covering a target with a front heavy gun for any length of time without something for support was a BITCH.

Thanks Lee!

Leaner and meaner was the whole goal.

Next up is the TA31 carbine upper and flat topping the A2 for an ACOG [:D]

Im gonna be so broke.

Lumpy,

You're a LEFTY?

I am, and I've been looking for a single point sling mount.

What d'ya have on there?

Thanks

Nope, righty.  Sorry, that last pic was probably misleading.

Notack - which one? The front is Knights.

Right side GG&G mount.  Look into Knights new M4 single point mount.  It takes their QD push button ring and mounts on either side.

Very, very nice !!

Any particular reason (excluding personal preference) that you chose the VLTOR stock over the ACE skeleton - balance have anything to do with it ??  I'm getting ready to finish off an SR-15 M4 Carbine and am beginning to select my parts.

Lumpy-

Nice rig! Mine is almost set-up the same way. The only difference, I have a Daniel Defense handguard and I WANT a Vltor stock! Waiting for WES to get buffertubes (and my wife to let me have some money)

Shortens up to work with or without body armor.
Cheek weld is EXCELLENT.
The battery storage is seriously cool.

Notack, still deciding if I even want to change the grip.  Over the years Ive just gotten used to not touching the web of my thumb to the grip so its far enough back to put the pad of my finger on the trigger.

Body armor???? Are you a police officer?

So that's why you use the Surefire! [:E]

Same results, only I've put between 3,000-4,000 rounds through my flat-top with the RRA. Rock Solid mechanism! Required zero fitting(drop in). No set-screws, etc.

Good looking setup.

I've changed my setup a number of times.  As I see new and improved gear, what works and doesn't, what I need and don't need or what I'm tired of and want changed.

A real beauty!  I'm with ya on mounting the Aimpoint (or Eotech for that matter) on the upper rather than way out on the forened.  It works great for my line of sight that way and puts it's weight more on the center of the carbine than adding to the weight out front.  I know alot of folks like it out there but to each his own!  Nice ARMS mount also!

I thought so too.  I have more sizes of KAC rails than I know what to do with...1/2 of them home made.  I need to quit switching shit around.

Like the setup Lumpy and I have the same problem with my vision using the aimpoint. So I mounted my scope at the same location where you mounted your scope. I'm still debating on converting to from a three point to a single point sling.

How much movement are you getting from the rifle when walking with the single point sling. I'm worried about getting knocked in the nuts with the rifle or a very bruised side. [shock]

I always keep my gun under control by holding onto one or the other grip, reciever grip for just walking around, foregrip for handgun transitions.  Other gear keeps it far enough out that Ive yet to smack my nads with it.

I prefer single points for CQB, 3 points for any walking in the brush.

I like the 3 points for the great out doors simply from the standpoint that you can put it over your back and out of the way without the muzzle end flopping everywhere.  Can come in handy in rough terrain.  That said, Marine Force Recon has been using Wilderness Single Points for awhile, and they are far more of an expert on field craft than I am.
