Archived [ARCHIVED THREAD] - Sand / Bead blasting a stock.....

I've got an old AR stock that is really shiny and I want to get it to match a dull set of handguards I have.

I'm thinking about blasting it to dull the shine on it.  I've blasted a synthetic Savage stock that someone had painted and it turned out great - has anyone bead or sand blasted an AR stock, and how did it turn out?

You've got a fiberglass stock; I'm not sure you want to beadblast it and have fibers hanging out everywhere.  You're probably better off painting it with a flat black paint, or just sanding it with fine-grit sandpaper.

A low pressure glass bead blast may dull the finish without breaking through the surface, but that's a trial and error situation where error may not be acceptable.  Sand blasting is more abusive and I wouldn't even try that.
