Hi guys. I would like to made my own safety selector (probably cnc) and would like to know if there is a material limitation. My idea is use some kind of high grade aluminium. But I can see all these selectors are made of steel. Is there any cons for ali and pros for steel? Thanks for reply and sorry for my poor English.

i'd see pros of steel being longevity and durability. with AL, the detent may eventually wear the shaft down and become inoperable. it's a small part and I don't think you'd be saving much weight either.

It all has to do with dent channel wear on the selector.  Steel detent pin on steel selector has far better wear characteristics than steel on aluminum with spring-loaded point contact.

Thank you guys. I thought there can be a problem with the detent may eventually wear the shaft down.
I was thinking about aluminium because the color options (anodizing) not the weight saving. Another idea is use titanium for all the parts of safety selector.

btw: I have seen a selector where is steel shaft and plastic levers...
