i'd see pros of steel being longevity and durability. with AL, the detent may eventually wear the shaft down and become inoperable. it's a small part and I don't think you'd be saving much weight either.

It all has to do with dent channel wear on the selector. Steel detent pin on steel selector has far better wear characteristics than steel on aluminum with spring-loaded point contact.

Thank you guys. I thought there can be a problem with the detent may eventually wear the shaft down.
I was thinking about aluminium because the color options (anodizing) not the weight saving. Another idea is use titanium for all the parts of safety selector. btw: I have seen a selector where is steel shaft and plastic levers... |
