Ok I am having trouble deciding on a barrel I think I have it narrowed down to these two, 16" CAR length M4 1/7 chrome lined Sabre Defence From PKfirearms or a CMMG. So far I have an Ameetec Arms complete lower, CMT M4 upper, 551 Eo-tech, and a L2 LED Pentagon Light. I will soon be ordering CMT super duty BCG from Denny's, MI 2 piece Free float forearms, RRA Dominator 2 and other small parts gas tube and such. Thanks for your opinions in advance. Oh by the way this is my first AR

I have a sabre 16"middy-govt and consider it a great value in that type of barrel...but for another $50 i could have bought Denny's operator barrel, damnit.hinking.gif
No experience with cmmg...no comment.
Just curious, why carbine? Have you considered mid-gas?

I have thought about a middy but I kinda like the CAR something just said CAR to me, is a middy more reliable? I am using this for a home defense and for fun at the range. I would like non SS barrel

yeah, I'm getting away from the stainless and leaning more towards chromelined-4150cv steel barrels. I just don't like the way a 16" sits out past carbine handguards...though i own one.hmid gas systems allow longer lockup and softer gas impulse...more reliable? never had any problems with any of my carbine or middy gas systems.

Both are top's. I have barrels from both. M4 type. CMMG has I think a larger selection. But you will not be let down bye eather.

OK well I had my mind made up on one of these barrels picked out the CMMG called was not in stock, so guess what I bought... an Operator middy barrel from Denny @ GTS completly different from what I planned on, and I think I made the right choice it is a work of art, fit perfect with my CMT M4 upper. I ordered it and it was on my door step in 2 days. now all I have left to buy is BCG from Denny's, Charging handle, rear sight and all the other stuff I want. I have the barrel parts in route to me with temporary handgaurds untill I decide on what 4 rail HG I want, pics to come soon.

I've read great things about both barrels so I don't think you'd lose either way.

I have 3 Sabres, no issue with any of them.

Sabre!

I have three of their barrels and they are excellent.

Don't trust CMMG at all.

I had a Sabre 1/9 middy and now have a CMMG 1/7 middy.

Both excellent barrels.

I would gladly buy from either again in the future.

I'm not running a grenade launcher so I'm not buying anymore M4 profile Brls.

Two saber Defense Brls i really like are their 14.5" 1:9 Govt contour w/ extended A2 and their 16" 1:7 Govt contour.

Can I ask why the 2-piece handguards with a 16" Brl?  The two piece units are really a solution for the problem of a perm attached muzzle devise. With a 16" Brl you can go with any of the one piece units.

True.

But a barreled upper from Dennys is $722.00
16" Operator brl W/ Gas tube $350.00
M4 Upper $99.00
Larue 9" Rail $273.00

A barreled upper from PK using,
Sabre Defense 1:7 Govt contour
M4 Upper
Troy 9" Rail.
$599.00

I'm still trying to decide between those two myself. I dont think the operator build is going to be worth $123.00 more necessary. but i'm still undecided.

For a free float... I'd personally go with the Sabre Mid-Length and free float that.

I shopped around for awhile and ended up going with a Sabre from PK. I've only got about a 100 rounds thru it so far but could not be happier. For what you get it's a great price.

Middy,1/7 chrome lined, government profile, F marked FSB, Troy 9" rail - $599

I'm going to get a 20" Sabre 1/7 from Pk Firearms.  Haven't heard any thing negative about Sabre Defense and I've been following the threads looking for awhile.  As far as the Denny's Operator.. I have 2 and for a midweight 16" barrel it cannot be beat.

Would love to see a side by side comparison of the Operator Brl Vs the Saber defense 16" middy for accuracy and reliability.

the cost difference is significant.
