I am fairly new to the ar scene as well and I did alot of looking and reading before bought.  I looked at the Smith and it is a nice weapon but I went with the RRA instead.  I am not an expert or an "operator" just an enthusiast who studys a little before he buys.  You probably would be please with the smith it looked and felt good.   I only looked at it but I really liked the fit and finish of the RRA plus the price of the RRA was cheaper.  But who knows how long that will last.

You have a choice between a RRA and the new Smith & Wesson, Military & Police AR? Without a doubt, get the S&W... They're available and are super sweet... I recently had the opportunity to handle one and gave it a good going over... Its very well made and I expect nothing but high praise from future reviews...

Is this Fact??.. Im just asking b/c Im big S&W fan and I know that they are PLENTY capable of forging/machineing their own uppers/lowers/parts and I think its weird that they would outsource them??hinking.gif

If thats the case then S&W is giving their customers a quality, well made product that is machined for the purpose that it serves...
Unlike RRA, who takes a product that isn't intended for a specific application and gives it to a monkey with a Dremel to hack up...

I haven't called Smith and asked  Pretty sure it is.

Oh hell, the reply wasn't meant to be a smith vs rra vs everyone... starter.

I realize that... Your reply just made me realize that S&W is doing it the right way, as in CMT has machined and Anodized feed ramps... Building with the proper parts isn't a hard thing to do...

I just got a RRA a few weeks ago and have over 500 rounds with not a single malfunction. I guess the infamous RRA  dremel monkey didnt get to my rifle. I had a Bushmaster a couple years ago that was a total piece of shit. All this proves is that guns are like anything else you buy, sometimes good, sometimes bad. Anyone who sits on here babbling about how great a Colt or Dpms is over any other quality company is a total moron in my opinion. If you buy from the big companies chances are you will have a perfectly well made rifle.

Now you throw Bushmaster onto the table... Bushmaster is good too... If your wanting to save a few bucks, get the Bushmaster, you will be happy with it for years to come...

Comparing RRA to S&W is NOT the same as Ford or Chevy, although I USED to think that it was...

If your going to use that analog then compare Bushmaster and the S&W as being Ford and Chevy and RRA as UGO...

You want performance specs on the S&W? Wait about a year to read the reviews because its to new to tell at this point in time... All I can tell you is that it's very well built with what seems to be high quality parts... It also has a very nice fit and finish to it... And as for the price, its not bad considering the parts quality and how well it is built...

I will be looking at a S&W M&P AR along with a M&P 40 cal. pistol.   I always like S&W and they have always treated me well.  Both firearms and customer service.

Yeah, your right... I guess those people that build their own AR's and then babble about the quality of certain manufacturers ways of doing things are morons... The intelligent people buy complete rifles from manufacturers that are only worried about getting quantity out the door instead of quality out the door...

ok so it seems to me though you didnt say it is for now i should stick with my original choice of the RRA seeing how it is somewhat proven rather then going S+W due to how new this design is?

also by buying the RRA i can save a few bucks and use them for goodies to accessorize the RRA

i guess you guys talked me out of it

Why isnt Smith proven? Its a AR made by CMT right?

Where the hell can you guys get an AR with a rail and $240 sights for $1000?  Sounds like a pretty good deal to me.

I think he just meant the flattop.  I didn't see anything about the Troy sights.  If he can get an M&P15T, go for it and tell me where I can get one...

The M&P comes stock with the troy rail and sights allthough marked M&P.  If I were looking for a smoking deal this would be it, providing it is set up as an M&P is set up.

CMT makes beautiful stuff.  And you are right, half of the major manufacturers get most of their stuff from CMT on variance.  The difference here is the simple fact that it is S&W engraved will command a premium over say a stag.  Factory gun, factory box, factory resale value.

Get all over it like a fly on.....

ok nice to see some guys know what i am talking about and  not arguing about who's better

so now it looks some guys want to spend my money on the S+W M+P

maybe i should just start a poll

Either do it, or post the location of such a find.  The retail on this rifle is $1700 if I recall.

The rail and sights alone are worth $500.

No poll required.

Yep, good deal! And my guess is that if you pass one day you'll kick yourself for not jumping.

Good luck.

You can see that it's turning into 6 of 1, Half-dozen of the other.....  that being said.

Whichever you buy, take that "extra money" and buy ammo and practice.  Don't spend it on "goodies" right away.  Especially if you're new to AR's.

Glockster19.......I don't know what kind of AR you should buy; however, I own both a S&W M&P 15 and a S&W M&P 15T.  They are my first AR's....both purchased within the last two weeks.....15 cost 950.....15T cost 1324.   I did the typical new gun cleaning and sighted in each one at a 125 yard distance cleaning barrels after every 5 shots (20 + -) for each.   On the 15T I use an EOTech sight.  On the 15 I use stock sights.  This past weekend my son and I shot just over 500 rounds total between both guns.  Each functioned perfectly....no gun glitches.  We used three different ammo brands and had two FTF with one of the brands....primer dented no bang.   My age is 63, my son is 32 and active military USCG, MSST.  Offhand he was able to ring our 9" steel plate every time at 100 yds....I could hit it 75% of the time with either gun...open or EOTech sights.  With a bipod, resting on a fence rail, he was shooting 2.7 inch groups with EOTech at 100 yds......I shot 3.5's..not so good.  I posted a photo of these guns a few days ago.  Hope this backyard report helps.  BTW the "not so good" refers to my shooting, not the 15's.
