Ordered a new upper from Rock River today. Can't wait for it to come in!

Then I remembered that I forgot to ask a question. What chamber will it have? Will it have a .223, .223 Wylde, or 5.56? I looked on their website, and it says .223/5.56. What does this mean? To me this would imply a .223 Wylde - and even this I don't really understand.

Can anyone help me here? Thanks!

What upper did you order, they make quite a few.

5.56 will chamber both 5.56 and .223. However, it is not reccomended in reverse order. Unless you got one of their Varmint or Match uppers, it should be 5.56. Check out The Ammo Oracle as it's quite helpful also.

If it is a 20" barrel, I think it will come with a Wylde chamber.

They offer both chambers in the 16" barrel varieties.

Sorry. My bad. I ordered a 16" 1/9 twist Chrome Lined Chrome Moly heavy barrel on a flat top upper with a mid length gas system, in pre/no ban configuration. I don't have an actual model number, I just called on the phone and told the lady on the other end what I wanted. Probably should have gotten that info too .

Thanks!

RRA breaks down the chamber by the barrel length. The 16" barrels come with the .223/5.56 NATO and the 20" barrels all come with the Wylde chamber.

The Varmint barrels, 16", 18", 20" and 24", stainless steel, all have the wylde chambers.

Book Hound,

I never could figure out why they do that. I asked RRA once and they could not really say why. I have both chambers and there is no difference in relaibility, other than my 18" Varmint is a tack driver-3/4" groups at 100 yards-no problem.

Take care,

Yeah, there's a reason I capitalized it that way. Kind of like "PWNED" and it's variations.

So either way, It's going to be a 5.56 or .223 Wylde - right? And as such, I'm good to shoot either .223 or 5.56 Q3131A/XM-193/XM-855, etc.

Right?

Thanks!

RRA has some of the best lowers out there. Their LPKs and stocks are of good quality too.

Special K,

I have handled and shot them all. There are a number of AR makers out there and all have good and bad points. Some are charging more for the name.

I have eight complete AR's and two lowers waiting for an upper. All of mine are RRA. What sold me on RR is the machining and fit quality. I purchased a RRA 1911 about 5 years ago and the quality of this pistol is immaculate. Iwould put it against a W***** or L** B*** any day, they cannot even come close.

I am an engineer and work with close tolerances and fits for a living and I can assure you, you will not find a better made AR. By no stretch of the imagination am I an AR expert, there are plenty more qualified on this forum than me, but I do know machining and fits, I am making my statements from this view point.

Hope this helps,

Good choice on the RRA midlength. Mine is 5.56 chamber. Yours should be as well.

RRA has some nice lowers. I'll also add Mega Machine to the list. I couldn't have asked for a better fit with my RRA upper and LPK.

I agree that RRA has some of the nicest lowers available due to their fit/finish. They seem to match up well with any upper that you can throw on 'em!

I dont care for their uppers due to the "dremeled" feed-ramps they have put on them in the recent past. Hopefully they will cut that shit sooner than later...Just NO good reason for it.

They're Wylde chambers. Wylde chambers can use 5.56 and .223 interchangeably and I think all of the RRA's come equipped with them. I personally like the Wylde chambers. Other AR chambers are usually chambered more tightly for the civlian .223 for competition purposes. The Wylde chambers are a cross between the civilian .223 and the military 5.56 chambers so feel free to use either to your liking.
