I have an opportunity to buy 1800 rnds of Winchester Q3282 - 30 rnds / box, 60 boxes / case on 10 rnd stripper clips for less than $500. Should I get it for plinking or is this price too high? Thanks.

ETA: Another question for those who don't reload: How much do you pay per round for plinking ammo? And what do you buy? Thanks again.

EATA: I just found Winchester SS109 on sportsmansguide for $299/1000. It's not on stripper clips. So 299 x 1.8 = $538 for 1800 rounds. I guess it is a good deal. I also found on sportsmansguide Lake City XM193 for $190 / 1000 which would be much better on the pocketbook.

That's about $5.50 for a typically-packaged box of 20 rounds. Seems a bit high to me for plinking.

THe xm193 is xm193pd, ie bulk ammo, some lots are good some are soso, take your chances, most here is seems do.

I think what you have 500 for 1800 rnds is a little steep for plinking but not by much, I would be very tempted to get it.

The fact that it's on stripper clips is attractive. I just don't see using M855 penetrators inside my house which is where I'd most likely use my rifle in a defensive manner. Right now I have Hornady TAP ammo loaded in the mags.
