I heard a rumor that White Oak Precision is turning "SPR" barrels for ADCO Firearms. They may not be "correct", but they are made from top quality 1:7 blanks(I know, SPRs aren't 1:7, or 1:8). You'll never know the difference when shooting, but your wallet will.

Do the SPR barrels used by the military have either a chrome lined chamber or a chrome lined bore? I'm guessing not, since it is a stainless steel barrel and I assume they are striving for maximum accuracy. How do they address issues of reliability? Are they match-chambered or NATO chambered? Thank you. |

Finalizing the details right now with John. I gave him the dimensions of what I have been turning RRA barrels to, and he will make them from blanks for me. Pricing will depend on what name barrel you want. I plan on stocking them made from Wilson Match barrels in 1:7, with the Wylde chamber. They may not have USGI stamped on them, but if Uncle Sam isn’t paying for it, you aren’t running around in Afghanistan either.
Those who know, know the type of quality White Oak Precision is known. I’ll post details in the EE and my web site when I’m ready to take orders. |

THE SPR BARRELS, BOTH THE BARNETT ONES CRANE USES AND THE C.L.E. ONES WE USE, ARE ALL STAINLESS AND DO NOT HAVE ANY CHROME LINING.
THE BARNETT SPR BARRELS USE A CUSTOM MATCH CHAMBER DEVELOPED BY THE A.M.U. FRANK WHITE OF C.L.E. USES HIS OWN MATCH CHAMBER IN THE SPR BARRELS HE BUILDS FOR US. REGARDING RELIABILITY: CRANE SELECTED THE DOUGLAS PREMIUM STAINLESS BARRELS AS A RESULT OF A 1,000 ROUND "TORTURE TEST". Thanks for the info. I was under the impression that the military was fairly fanatical about chrome-lining after early experience with the A1 in Vietnam. I would suppose that the operators of these weapons could be counted on the provide better than average maintenance on their rifles. I've read that a "tight" Match chamber could be a reliability issue in the field. A Wylde style chamber that still has generous NATO dimensions but a shorter throat for better accuracy shouldn't have any reliablity problems. How is the weight of the SPR barrel compared to the 20" A2? |
