SPR... what good is it to you?

First, it was M4gery fever. Now, it's SPR madness.

What compels you to build a $2000 upper?

a) need it because it's a functional tool
b) tinkering and building it is fun
c) owning a piece of small arms evolution
d) money to burn
e) it's tacticool, mall ninja standard issue

The SPR reminds me a little of the "Perimeter Carbine" that's been around for years from D&L Sports but militarized...

I wanted one since I saw one in Guns&Weapons for LE and Millitary a year or so ago, but then I saw the price.

I guess I could use it for coyotes, but I really want it just because its cool looking and functional as a carbine and sniper rifle...

I like that first picture. Someone on this board told me that VFGs were never pushed all the way to the front of the rifle for precision work.

Because I wanted a accurate weapon without having to go over to the 308 side. 2nd because this wepon system matches my needs and wants in a rifle, although I reside in the prk and don't have the brake on it, I waited almost 4 years to build my lower and I wanted to do it right the first time.

Before you say the DCM's are just as accurate you'd better shoot one.

And last but not least, to borrow from H-D
If I have to explain you wouldn't understand.

Could someone help me out and please explain the different terms. What exactly is a DCM and a SPR. I know what an AR15 and M16 are and I am familiar with the A2 and A3 versions of these and of course the M4 and the CAR and all that. I am just not really sure about the specs on a DCM and a SPR. Thanks.

Here's my brand new one. Not a typical SPR, but it is SPRish I guess! SPR is purpose driven really. Relatively light weight, highly accurate capable of well placed shots at much further ranges etc. But not so delicate or precision oriented that you cant use it to run and gun up close if need be.

Oh yeah, and they're kinda cool!

DCM Director of Civilian Marksmanship. The rifles use for competition.
SPR Special Purpose Receiver. M-16 sniper rifle. Altough SPR is beginning to be applied to many accurized rifles intended for tactical use.

The “SPR” is the military equivalent of a High Power Match rifle. When it comes to new technology for rifle accuracy; the military takes its ques from the civilian competition market. Those heavier bullets, float tubes, and such were being used in competition long before the military took notice.
For those who have never see or participated in an across the course High Power match, you’d be amazed at some of the shooting and the rifles (Service and Match) used.

Yea the War on Terrorism has caused alot of changes.I saw the XM8 videos, it didnt look too bad but I didnt see it do any thing a M16/M4 wouldnt do.

Is the terminal performance of the 77gr. 5.56mm bullet worth it?

For almost the same amount of money, you could buy a Super Match M1A.

Now everyone and there brother wants the Colt HBAR barrel, even though it makes the rifle front heavy, and don't realize that there is nothing match about the bore/chamber, just a less expensive/ill weighted version of a standard M-16A2 barrel.
