I want to say that it's a rifle length gas system, but I'm not entirely sure.
Somebody else knows for sure. Did you check out some of the SPR threads in the Industry Forum. Denny's Guns and MSTN I think have some on the SPR. |

Real SPR's do indeed have a rifle length gas system.

Because the 18" w/rifle gas system requires a gas port big enough to step in.

If the rifle length gas system is working, why introduce a mid-length gas tube to the military supply system?

It works, that's proven, but the mid length system ensures a more reliable system. The rifle length system isn't the optimal set up as it'd be 'better' if the gas port was enlarged. It works, but I think the point is that the mid length gas system may work a little better. For my own disclaimer...this all based on what I've read - I've yet to spend any time with an 18" AR. |

I have an 18" like that, but I've never put it all together.
How would a 12.5 Mid work, BTW. I know that it would work with a can, but how about without? |

Thats not a configuration I'd want to consider. Why not got the the 14.5 MID? Then again, the benefits of a 16" MID are even better yet... |

I figure that the 10.5's run OK, despite the fact that they shouldn't.... why not go for M4 velocity in a shorter package? If I want something longer, I'd get the 14.5 mid, or the 16 for a Title I. |

Isnt it fun like that? I'm running a 11.5" setup based on your 10.5" logic and moved the gas port out 1". Theres a funny, blurry line between barrel length, port location/size and dwell time, that doesnt want to follow what seems logical. Screw a suppressor on the end and its a whole new ballgame. |
